I also live in the Netherlands, and the amount of protests here are actually extremely low in my opinion, ok, there were some riots going on when the law to ban squatting passed, but apart from that, nobody seems to give a fuck about anything. The only thing they do give a fuck about, is getting as much minorities out of the country, so they voted for a complete imbicile who says that muslims take over our country by emigrating here, but he actually SUPPORTS ISRAEL, of sweet fucking irony.

Most Neo-Liberals and Neo-Conservatives (who tend to be highly Anti Semetic) Support Israel. These people have been trying to get rid of the Jewish population in their country since WWII, and they're happy to support the state if it gives them easy access to the Middle East.

    Yes.

It's worth mentioning that Europe isn't a haven for strikes and protests. In fact, they're rather rare. The main cause is the horrible conditions your average people are being subject to under governmental cuts worldwide. As for the USA not even bothering to have mass demonstrations, well there could be varying reasons. For example, the United States is a massive country. Protests tend to happen in a Countries' capital. In the US this would be very hard to get even a small amount of the population there. Or you could have demonstrations in every major city, but that would require a lot of planning. Then there's the lack of organised Unions in America, and the lack of communication between Unions and their greatest ally, students (which is why Paris had such a large protest group.) Then there's the stigma of looking like Europe. American citizens have been conditioned to try and be different from Europe, it is seen as the 'old world' which America rebelled against, and it is seen as a socialist hub. Also, the United States hasn't seen any recent Authoritarian extremism, so it's citizens aren't as untrustworthy of the Government in terms of physical force.

    oh so true. :@
so that is why we just let things happen. most americans believe the government is actually doing something for them but that is probably because they are watching the same news the rest of the masses are watching. plus anytime something massive is going on, the news will feature some other sad excuse for the night commentary...like oh, the immigrant situation or the immigrants are stealing our money and social services and taking our spots in the universities.
i think i just steered way off topic.
and you are from the UK....how is the situation over there?

What I know of history makes me think that it's pretty much always been horrible. There's so much war, slavery, oppression, xenophobia/homophoiba/sexism, etc in human history...it's disgusting.

The UK is in a hilarious situation in which the Liberal party had to ally with the Conservative party in order to have a functioning parliament. Shortly after the alliance, the leaders of the Liberal party turned staunchly conservative in most of their political views. Backbenchers and Liberal voters are obviously not happy. In some sort of 'positive' note, the newly elected opposition leader is a centrist. Considering that the UK has been a Neo-liberal playground since the 80's, I guess this is good. So yes, large public dismay. As evidenced by Student protesting, and general protests which are likely to increase.

    In my opinion.
