Scummo, our evangelistic, coal spruiking and climate change denialist Prime Minister gets chased out of the NSW town of Cobargo, in the wake of bushfires that razed the town with at least two known deaths. A member of his own party stated that scummo got the welcome he deserved. Watch the unexpurgated video here:

Scott Morrison heckled after he tries to shake hands with bushfire victim in NSW town of Cobargo

Our state broadcaster cut out the "piss off" and "fuckwit" comments of the townsfolk.

He really is a clueless prick that deliberately fucked up the recent Climate Summit in Madrid.

His political capital has taken a nose dive. He and his family took off to Hawaii for Christmas holidays whilst the fires were burning. The outcry was such that he had to cut his holiday short and get back quick smart. He then spent the last fortnight saying that the fires and climate change were not linked. He refused the use of airforce planes and choppers to assist in the fires and denied that volunteer fire fighters needed any recompense for their time and efforts. He's been shamed into granting 4 weeks paid leave for federal employees who are volunteers, paying $300 per day to self employed volunteers and has finally called in the army, navy and airforce to deliver supplies to communities isolated by the fires and to evacuate people from the worst hit areas in Gippsland and the NSW South coast. Meanwhile the NSW emergency services minister is currently enjoying his holiday in Europe !!!

    Bunch of clueless bastards.

We are for the moment. Today is going to be the big one 46c temp, 10% humidity, extreme fire danger warning and an expected wind change that could push the fires in our direction. Already towns 40 klik's away have been evacuated. It's looking pretty grim. The fires have been travelling at 30km/day, so they're getting too close for comfort. May well be on the road tomorrow.

I think it's always important to remind these people who push climate change denialism that the industry (of climate denialism) is driven by massive rightwing think tanks which are, intern, driven by massive corporate profits and public relations firms; EG, Propaganda agencies.

Our current govt is en thrall to coal, fossil fuel and mining interests. 10 years ago these people banded together to defeat a carbon tax proposal which saw a semi-progressive prime minister turfed out by the right wing of his own party. His successor attempted to raise royalty taxes on mining and they once again banded together to defeat her. We then got a conservative govt led by a catholic climate change denialist who was a complete whack-job. All discussion of climate change was ruled out under his tenure. He didm't survive his first term, being rolled by his own party due to 30 negative opinion polls. He was replaced by someone who did believe in climate change but achieved zilch due to the denialists in his party. He in turn was ditched by his party, being replaced by the current dickhead - an evangelistic, climate change denialist who thinks the rich deserve their wealth because they've been blessed by god. He's a right royal wanker. The conservatives here are following the Republican playbook on culture wars to a t.

The last federal election saw him win largely due to massive swings to the conservatives in the state of Queensland. There is a huge coal mine being developed there and it was an election issue. A billionaire spent $60 million on targeted propaganda in Queensland to influence the vote there and succeeded. The conservatives themselves ran a campaign full of lies as well. Voters here fell for the bullshit and hey presto, we have Scummo as PM. This governments idea of green energy is to go nuclear ffs. I hope with the fires, at least some of the duped are regretting their decision to vote this deadshit into power.

The amount of land scorched by fire here is equal to the land lost in California, the Amazon fires and Siberia combined.

Bottom line is that we are stuck with this govt until 2023, which translates into 15 years of inaction on climate change. Meanwhile we continue to burn amidst one of the longest and harshest droughts in the history of white colonisation. Talk about fiddling whilst Rome burns.

Maybe a good introduction into the failure of party politics....
Really though, I'm sorry for your situation and I wish I could do more.

    Fire Update
Victorian fires treble in size as threat remains over Alpine communities

We live 45 minutes from Tallangatta and have a blanket of smoke covering our town. The regional airport is so covered with smoke that flights are being diverted and cancelled. There was a very small smattering of rain today which did nothing to dissipate the smoke. The air quality is rated as hazardous, especially for people with heart/lung conditions [like my wife and I]. There are no P2 masks available and we have basically been confined to staying indoors for the last three days. I'm running low on some meds so we'll have to venture outside in the next couple of days. On the bright side, the fires didn't advance in our direction yesterday, nor did they hit Tallangatta, Beechworth or Yackandandah, where we have friends from the local music scene. The freeway has been re-opened also after fires cut it in both directions.

Thanks. We're not doing it as tough as some, as we haven't needed to evacuate yet, unlike others who have fled, lost their homes or livelihoods [livestock losses are in the 100's of 1000's]. Luckily the death toll in Victoria isn't into double digits yet, unlike NSW where 26 have died so far. Emergency services are doing a great job in that regard.

I don't know if you get The Daily Show in Australia or not but they showed some footage of The Prime Minister which I thought was hilarious.

In case you don't get it down under, The Daily Show is a nightly show that airs from Monday through Thursday on the cable channel Comedy Central, and is basically a send up on the news, and international current events. The other day, they were covering the progress of the Australian wildfires, and the U.S. involvement on helping to put them out, as well as disaster relief. They showed clips of the Prime Minister apologizing for being on vacation at the height of the fire storm, and his trying to reach out and make amends. Needless to say people were pissed off, and it was so funny to watch. People were refusing to accept his apology, and wouldn't shake hands with him. My favorite clip was one of the volunteer fire fighters giving him the old "Churchill Salute", and one volunteer fire fighter stating rather sarcastically how they just enjoyed doing what they do, and how fun this is. Unless this man is really crooked and has friends in high places, I don't think he will be re-elected.

Haven't been on here for the past week due to fires etc, but glad to hear that he's being shown up internationally for the fuckwit he is. There were mass protests here and o/s calling for his resignation due to his climate change "policies" or lack there-of on Friday. Two fires on the NSW Vic border have merged into one huge fuckin mega blaze about 50 km from where we live.

It's been a pretty shitty week. Firstly the car died, managed to fix it but spent the next couple of days feeling quite sick due to smoke inhalation whilst exposed to it repairing the car. It's put quite a dent in our bug out money reserve as well. Last night fires started only 3km from where we live, it was only a change of wind direction that stopped them sweeping town. They're still burning but contained at the moment. It will be interesting to find out how it started though, whether it was a dry lightning strike or some stupid prick tossing a butt end out of their car window. On the bright side, the air was clearer today with some blue sky thanks to the winds. We're now in an alert zone so we have to keep constantly monitoring the emergency services web page for updates. Not quite ready to pull the pin and leave yet but it's ben getting pretty nerve wracking.

I sort of figured you weren't here due to the situation out your way.

Sorry to hear about your car troubles. I don't know anything about cars. Believe it or not, I never learned how to drive. Lucky break with the wind change direction. Hope that keeps things at bay for the time being. We have the same situation yearly in California during the spring, summer, and autumn, and it keeps getting worse with every passing year.

I haven't been on here for a week either due to my situation on the homefront, but my mother is still hanging in there. (She's a tough old lady for 80)

Stay safe, and if you don't come here as often due to the fires, I'll understand.
