Sounds like you prefer the more melodic and dare I say commercial sound. There's nothing wrong with that per se. Best I can think of, off the cuff, are the pop punk bands of the late 90's and noughties such as Green Day, Blink 182, NO FX etc. A better suggestion is for you to trawl through the downloads here, which are free, and discover bands whose commitment to anarchism is more than just a fashion statement. The pop punk bands are ok for disseminating the idea of anarchy more widely in the mainstream but at the end of the day, they are commercial outfits flogging records for major capitalist labels. There are many compilation downloads available here that cover a lot of musical styles. Be adventurous. You'r journey has just begun. And please don't take this reply as criticism, we all had to start out somewhere. Also do some reading to clarify just what anarchism is all about. I wish you luck on your quest.

My wife is a folkie [vocals and guitar]. Other than listening I don't have a musical bone in my body. Could you recommend some bands we can check out?

Three of my favorites you might take an interest in would be.......
Tribe 8-All female "Dyke-Core" out of the Bay Area although it's been revealed that two of the members as actually bi. Still doesn't take away from their music. They broke up in 98, but an internet search should help you find their music

8 Inch Betsy-All female lesbian melodic punk band from Chicago. Has one release, "First Time, Last Time, Every Time" and another one is in the can and people say it will be released any day now for the last eight years, but it still hasn't surfaced. The first C.D. is out of print, and a bit hard to find, but do a search on the interwebs and you might get lucky. If you like Against Me, this might be more suited to your tastes.

Limp Wrist-All out all male "Queer-Core" thrash. Definitely has a mixture of Hardcore and D-Beat to it. Very punk. The lead singer is the original singer and founding member of Chicago punk band Los Crudos, and Limp Wrist play in a similar style.
