Kinda makes me wonder though about the intent of the author. It seems to have an air of cynicism to it.

I know you didn't see it as a joke, but I was referring to crustcat's quote cos she thought it was meant as a joke and I thought she was wrong! wrong! wrong!

IIIIdunno, haha, that does sound like a parody. Some of it also make me laugh a bit. All I know is if I was still rocking a mohawk and studded jacket today, I'd definitely get that "you're too old for this shit" from people.
Anyone here over 40 still doing that?? I remember joking with a buddy, saying that when I'm 60 I'm still gonna have a mohawk, haha. Hey, why not? :lmao:

Oh wait, we actually thought of that too. We talked about getting a permanent mohawk implanted into the scalp!

I remember these two older guys, I'm guessing both must've been in their 50's the one looked older, no mohawks or funny colored clown-style hair, haha, but I saw them at every gig, one every weekend in our local squat-venue. They were like a fixture in that venue (AK-47 in the Kiefernstrasse) and they didn't just stand around, they were thrashing with us in the pit! Ok, they had to rest and catch their breath for long periods in between but I always admired them and thought, fuck, when I'm that old I also want to still be doing that. \m/
Here's a pic of the venue, unfortunately I don't have any pics of them:

38, and still listening to anarcho-punk. Too old for a mohawk ? Yeah, hear that pretty often but that doesn't make me shave it off ;)
Did my music style change ?
Hell yeah, of course... the world has changed since the '80s, with a shitload more different music styles.

So apart from punk and gothic, I really got to love EBM like Feindflug and Wumpscut.

We played a show with Dropdead last year and Bryan their drummer turned out to be a big Diatribe admirer since the early 80's which was awesome, so Vinny our singer (who is 51) went absolutely crazy during their set...it was a sight to behold, completely surrounded with LA's powerviolence kids going crazy the old man not only kept his own but had a few things to teach them about dancing etiquette

Musical taste is something that's constantly evolving, so it's no surprise that people lose interest in some bands or genres in favour of others. I used to listen to Korn, fuck sake, ugh! But what's annoying is when the baby gets thrown out with the bathwater. Say someone stops listening to e.g. Propagandhi or Oi Polloi, after having taken in and agreed with all their messages and politics, and then abandons those views along with the music. That'd be sad.

No, but I have gotten the "aren't you too smart to be a punk?"-treatment. Generally I've replied, "No, I'm too smart not to be a punk", but it gets annoying.

Getting older, last few years I've noticed that my body is slowing down a bit, it takes me more time to recover and I certainly can't take the abuse I could some years back. But, being smart about it I can still do anything I could do at 24. I was never really into looking extreme, and as I got older I just don't care anymore. Suit and tie or all thorn up, both is just as good. I still go to shows and organize some. I also enjoy non punk parties way more than most punk heavy parties. I still mostly hang out with people that re part of the scene in a very broad sense, but have friends that aren't interested in punk one bit. I still like to go wild at punk shows though it takes more to get me going and it's not really possible to just jump around when you also have to sell tickets and stuff.

I'm more comfortable with older people, and get annoyed by teenagers a lot of the time. Maybe that is ageism, but there's plenty of folk I can't stand that are my age or older. I guess this is a very complex question that has a lot to do with personal preferences, past experience and such.

I'm probably more into punk now than I was ten years ago, if anything I have more confidence in my choices. I did have a period of few years in my twenties when I stopped going to punk shows and tried to be more of student mainstream NGO activist. In the end I felt it was one of bigger disappointments in my life. It made me realize I don't belong in the nice clean everyday fake it till you make it world of financed festivals and academia, but in the smelly hit you like a hammer no bullshit undercurrent.

No, I don’t think I’m too old to listen to punk, and I’m in the 25-35 demographic.

I think some people in my life are quite surprised to find out how into punk music I am. I’ve never really bothered to look very punk (I had my hair in a bright red bob for a little while in my early 20s, but in the end, it was too much effort to maintain and it dyed all kinds of stuff in my life pink, which annoyed me) so I’m a bit of a sneaky punk in that sense. But anyone who knows me well enough to have talked beliefs/politics/worldview with me is probably much less surprised by my musical proclivities.

Although it was quite ironic when I went to Rebellion last summer hearing the adverts singing about being bored teenagers when the majority of the audience and band were in their 50s.. :p
