Is Street Punk Dying?

In my country, you can count the amount of punk bands on one hand, let alone street punk.
Theres my two cents

Othen than being another label and subdivision... what exactly is "streetpunk"?

 

In Russain many punk's try plays Street punk of the spirit US bands, but obtained few whom is good. Our in Siberia none who plays it's musical style. Here are a couple of examples russian street punk band, maybe your like:

But yeah...street punk is practicaly dead.
I live in OC and there's hardly any "punk" left.
But my generation is going to change that.

Look at Japan if you wanna know where the good "street punk" is.

Hell, theres not a single bad band there.

In the states however, most of those bands bore the shit out of me.

D-beat it to death.

 

i've heard some good shit from there, but i didn't catch any names. got any recs? it doesn't have to be strictly "street punk," or whatever. (some of these subgenre divisions make me crazy.)

 

Ugh, Japanese streetpunk is too poppy for me, most Japanese music tends to be high pitched and annoying as it is.

There's a streetpunk show in New London, Connecticut this saturday if anyone's interested. Blanks 77, Copyright Chaos (back together!), Long Drop, The Havnotz, Drawback, and Combat Crisis.

 

Ive been into streetpunk for a very longtime. I still have a webzine that is very old, but documents some bands that have been going around years ago:

The scene has died alot though.. Mostly has to do with the economy. The last time I checked, alot of my favorite bands were quiting becuase they had to work more.

 

Wow. Perhaps street-punk style is becoming the mainsteam "punk"? It'll change from the NOFX/Rancid to The Casualties/The Unseen

 

Haha. At the Metro. I'm being forced to go. Don't worry, I'll make plenty of bitchy comments.

Anyway, street punk seems pretty dead to me. Not that it ever really existed around here in the frozen Midwest. More of a West Coast thing with a bit of East Coast. Every time I hear the phrase "So-Cal Punk" I want to punch someone in the mouth.

Either way it's no great loss. There's really great street punk like Oxymoron, but the rest of the scene always seemed pretty lame to me (I'm looking at you, Mike Virus). Also, the term "street punk" bothers me. Sounds like its trying to be overly badass.

And as for the new Casualties album, I wouldn't buy it if it were an indie release.

Fuck, I wouldn't even pirate it.

What the fuck do you mean theres no Punk in the OC what about PHOBIA!!!???

 

Blanks 77 is good to me. Id go to that show in connecticut if i could, not even being in to "street punk".

Street punk will fade...hopefully

 

Yeah, that's why I like the Midwest, always good bands up here, no shitty street punk.
