As some of you may know, Punk Core records (a major street punk label) has called it quits, and returned to being just a mail-order service. Also Charged Records hasn't done anything for about a year now. Many Bands that helped fuel the scene into the late 90's early 2000's (A Global Threat, Career Soldiers, Cheap Sex, Clit 45, etc.) are now defunct and everyone is seeming to lose interest. Bands like Lower Class Brats are getting old, and even Mike Virus's new band, Evacuate, is pretty lame. The only place it seems to still be thriving is California with bands like Monster Squad. Every local band around here seems to be going the way of either a more thrashy punk or more crusty sound. Every now and then you'll get a cool band like Krum Bums, or the well overplayed Casualties to roll through your town.

What I want to know is, what does the future hold for street punk? will it fade out like Hardcore did in the 80's?
Does anyone care? I'm guessing not.

Streetpunk is dying anyway, all bands are selling out.

Punkcore records ? Hahah, fuck them. AFAK They are one of the biggest label to threaten website like ours with lawsuits if they don't remove their stuff.

But there's still a couple of very good streetpunk bands going, they're just more underground unlike casualties and such.

    yeah,

Mark unseen's new band is not bad (rejected youth).... finally a street punk band that became very popular but changed to something better.... This band talks about anarchist army, black flag and anti-fascist action so it's very far from The Unseen...

SS kaliert is not bad, acidez, angry youth, the ghouls, copyright chaos, etc...

in quebec and france there are also a few good non-shitty street punk bands, and spanish streetpunk scene is also very big

In my country, you can count the amount of punk bands on one hand, let alone street punk.
    Theres my two cents :lmao:

    EDIT:

Refer to my sig for my opinion on The Casualties.

streetpunk is hardcore punx.... mindless chaotic punk with big colorful mohawks.....

The casualties, the exploited, the virus, a global threat, cheap sex, krum bums, and such... are the usual streetpunk references

to some peoples it also means oldschool Oi! (back in old times Oi! was called Street-punk)..... i think even wikipedia refer streetpunk to oldschool Oi!

But yeah...street punk is practicaly dead.
I live in OC and there's hardly any "punk" left.
But my generation is going to change that.

Look at Japan if you wanna know where the good "street punk" is.

Hell, theres not a single bad band there.

In the states however, most of those bands bore the shit out of me.

    D-beat it to death.

i've heard some good shit from there, but i didn't catch any names. got any recs? it doesn't have to be strictly "street punk," or whatever. (some of these subgenre divisions make me crazy.)

Ugh, Japanese streetpunk is too poppy for me, most Japanese music tends to be high pitched and annoying as it is.

There's a streetpunk show in New London, Connecticut this saturday if anyone's interested. Blanks 77, Copyright Chaos (back together!), Long Drop, The Havnotz, Drawback, and Combat Crisis.

Ive been into streetpunk for a very longtime. I still have a webzine that is very old, but documents some bands that have been going around years ago:

    www.freewebs.com/upthepunx

The scene has died alot though.. Mostly has to do with the economy. The last time I checked, alot of my favorite bands were quiting becuase they had to work more.

The casualties recently signed a deal with the Target Superstore franchise, to have their record exclusively available at target for 9 bucks. In about a week they are playing a show with pop-punk/ska band called less than jake. i really cant even try and listen to them anymore

Wow. Perhaps street-punk style is becoming the mainsteam "punk"? It'll change from the NOFX/Rancid to The Casualties/The Unseen

Haha. At the Metro. I'm being forced to go. Don't worry, I'll make plenty of bitchy comments.

Anyway, street punk seems pretty dead to me. Not that it ever really existed around here in the frozen Midwest. More of a West Coast thing with a bit of East Coast. Every time I hear the phrase "So-Cal Punk" I want to punch someone in the mouth.

Either way it's no great loss. There's really great street punk like Oxymoron, but the rest of the scene always seemed pretty lame to me (I'm looking at you, Mike Virus). Also, the term "street punk" bothers me. Sounds like its trying to be overly badass.

And as for the new Casualties album, I wouldn't buy it if it were an indie release.

Fuck, I wouldn't even pirate it.
