Here in portland there's an estimated 10,000. Someone in the crowd said it was the second biggest in the country.

Everyone has opinions, but what about Ideas? The time is now. Take your ideas to your local "Occupy" meetings, or post you ideas on the "Occupy" boards.
What serious changes can we make?

Sometimes the best ideas/answers can spawn from questions. Let's start asking REAL questions.

Who is this 1%? Names! Can we get a list?
What exactly have they done? Detailed List!

My idea is ask them to own up and fix the problems they created! Make these lists public. That's just for starters.

Find your local "Occupy" sect. (Please note that the amount it says attending are only people who have been to that site and said they are attending said event. Don't feel discouraged because there are more people on the street than are checking in on the site.)

It was so funny to buck the hierarchy of the #OccupySanDiego organizers that were openly announcing that it would be an "unauthorized" march, and we wouldn't have the "protection" of the security staff and would be subject to arrest and discouraging people from following us...when I stepped off the sidewalk I was half expecting to be arrested on the spot as their were at least a 100 cops right next to us b ut suddenly all adrenaline and heartbeats rushed forward....

the occupation movement gets labeled as aimless on occasion but a choice piece of wisdom i picked up from the notification board while i was up at wall street read

MAKING DEMANDS PUTS YOUR HAPPINESS IN THE HANDS OF OTHERS

    to which i agreed wholeheartedly.

as a good anarchist i cant think of a single reason why one shouldnt be occupying their local public parks. for me the movement towards occupation has been a chance to stop preaching and start doing. LET IT HAPPEN!

Solidarity statement from the General Defense Committee of the Industrial Workers of the World

The General Defense Committee of the Industrial Workers of the World stand in solidarity with our brave brothers and sisters at Occupy Wall Street. We denounce and detest the intimidation, harassment, and brutality exhibited by the New York Police. The actions of the police lay bare the true nature of Wall Street and Capitalism.

We call on all those that still retain a sense of humanity to show their support of the working class by refusing to engage in the brutal silencing of dissent. The only individuals who remain unaffected by the volatility of capitalism, globalization, and the stock market are those who are getting richer from furthering the disparity of all workers through calculated economic calamity. We support all of our brave fellow workers on the front lines of this occupation throughout the United States, and those like it across the world.

We recognize that the true occupying forces are the wealthy ruling classes, their institutions, and the States that legitimize their power. The police and military forces that protect their masters' wealth and power are just as guilty as their masters. Only by uniting as workers and standing together as a class, can we take back our streets and our workplaces.

    Solidarity Forever!

Protests spread to more than a dozen cities.

(Reuters) - Protests against corporate greed and economic inequality spread across America on Thursday and found unlikely sympathy from a top official of one of main targets of scorn -- the Federal Reserve.

The Occupy Wall Street movement that began in New York last month with a few people has expanded to protests in more than a dozen cities.

They included Tampa, Florida; Trenton and Jersey City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Norfolk, Virginia in the East; to Chicago and St. Louis in the Midwest; Houston, San Antonio and Austin in Texas; Nashville, Tennessee; and Portland, Oregon, Seattle and Los Angeles in the West.

Dallas Federal Reserve President Richard Fisher surprised a business group in Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday when he said: "I am somewhat sympathetic -- that will shock you.

The Fed played a key role in one of the protest targets, the 2008 Wall Street bailout that critics say let banks enjoy huge profits while average Americans suffered high unemployment and job insecurity.

"We have too many people out of work," Fisher said. "We have a very uneven distribution of income. ... We have a very frustrated people, and I can understand their frustration."

In addition to the bailout, protesters have raged against corporate greed and influence over American life, the gap between rich and poor, and hapless, corrupt politicians.

"I'm fed up with the government, I'm fed up with the bailouts. If I fail at my job, I don't get a bonus -- I get fired," said Tim Lucas, 49, vice president of a software company, who was protesting in Austin.

Hundreds of people have been arrested in New York since the protests began last month. On Wednesday, the biggest crowd so far of about 5,000 people marched on New York's financial district, and police used pepper spray on some protesters. But protests for the most part have been nonviolent.

On Thursday, a few hundred protesters milled about a park near Wall Street where they have set up camp, but there were no immediate plans for another march.

With support from labor unions boosting the protesters' ranks, organizers predicted momentum would continue to build.

"This is the beginning," said John Preston in Philadelphia, business manager for Teamsters Local 929. "Teamsters will support the movement city to city."

In Philadelphia, up to 1,000 protesters chanted and waved placards reading: "I did not think 'By the People, For the People' meant 1 percent," a reference to their argument the country's top few have too much wealth and political power.

In Los Angeles, more than 100 protesters crowded outside a Bank of America branch downtown, while a smaller group dressed in business attire slipped inside and pitched a tent. Eleven were arrested when they refused to remove the tent.

In Washington, protesters carried signs that read: "Human Needs, Not Corporate Greed" and "Stop the War on Workers."

"I believe the American dream is truly in jeopardy," said protester Darrell Bouldin, 25, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. "There are so many people like me in Tennessee who are fed up with the Wall Street gangsters.

In San Antonio, protesters gathered at the city's Confederate War Veterans Monument and chanted: "The banks got bailed out, we got sold out."

In addition to the Fed's Fisher, senior politicians and corporate executives including President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, tried to show empathy for the protesters.

"People are frustrated and, you know, the protesters are giving voice to a more broad-based frustration about how our financial system works," Obama said at a news conference in Washington.

Biden, speaking at the Washington Ideas Forum, likened the protest movement to the Tea Party, which sprang to life in 2009 after Obama's election and has become a powerful grass-roots conservative force helping elect dozens of Republicans to office.

"The American people do not think the system is fair," Biden said.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he understood the anger being felt by the protesters, but said that he had to balance that with the economic importance of Wall Street to the state. Wall Street is the pillar of the New York state economy, making up 13 percent of tax contributions.

The head of the General Electric Co finance arm, Michael Neal, told Reuters in an interview: "People are really angry, and I get it. If I were unemployed now, I'd be really angry too."

Police, protesters clash at National Air and Space Museum

(Reuters) - Authorities shut down Washington's popular National Air and Space Museum on Saturday afternoon after antiwar protesters tried to enter the building and clashed with guards, a museum spokeswoman said.

One person was arrested during the melee at the Smithsonian museum involving between 150 and 200 protesters and six guards, museum spokeswoman Isabel Lara said.

"There was a lot of shoving going on," Lara said, adding one of the guards was surrounded and used pepper spray before the demonstrators were moved outside. She said she was not aware of any injuries.

The shoving match broke out in a vestibule between two glass doors at the museum entrance after guards told the protesters they could not enter with signs, Lara said.

Protest organizers said the attempt to enter the museum on the National Mall was part of the Occupy D.C. antiwar demonstrations that began on Thursday on the 10th anniversary of the start of the Afghanistan war.

"Along with the Occupy Wall Street movement, it represents an upswell of people taking to the street around the country to demand social and economic justice as well as an end to the immoral wars in Iraq and Afghanistan," organizers said in an e-mail sent to Reuters.

"It is outrageous that the security guard of a major museum in America pepper sprayed Americans as they entered the museum. The drones housed in this museum and the pepper spraying of Americans at the door are clear evidence of repression in America," Retired Colonel Ann Wright said in the e-mail.

Drones are armed tactical unmanned planes used by the U.S. government to track and attack insurgents overseas.

The museum, which draws 8 million visitors a year and is the most visited Smithsonian Institution museum, was shut down at 3:15 p.m.. Lara said it would reopen on Sunday.

    NYC PROTESTERS MAY EXPAND

Anti-Wall Street protests continued in New York City on Saturday and in other U.S. cities, although crowds outside New York have been much smaller.

"We're tired of other people controlling, or thinking they control, our lives and our livelihoods," said Kristin Thompson, a 22-year-old preschool teacher and one of 100 protesters in Mobile, Alabama.

In Santa Fe, New Mexico, about 250 protesters lined the streets outside a Bank of America branch, waving signs at passing vehicles.

Participants said they had been summoned via social network Internet sites, labor organizers, the liberal website MoveOn.org and members of the local Green Party.

"We are all in this together," said Ramona Beene, 45, who owns a cake company.

She said her two college-age children were "spending thousands of dollars and won't have jobs after they graduate."

In New York, hundreds of protesters marched from lower Manhattan to Washington Square Park in the Greenwich Village neighborhood -- the site of protests against the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s -- to discuss expanding their encampment to other sites.

Lucas Vasquez, a student leading the march, said protesters were looking at expanding into Washington Square and Battery Parks, but stressed, "We're not going to give up Liberty Plaza" -- the protesters' name for Zuccotti Park near Wall Street, where about 250 have camped out around the clock.

"It's sometimes hard to move around there. We have a lot of people," he said.

q: why should a real anarchist NEVER step off the sidewalk and right onto the unprotected street?
a: it may scare the tourists away and it makes the security stuff lookin' so ridiculous pretentious.

guess i'll got the tahir feelin' now too, i'm about to skip all those ages old local grassroots and affinity groups i never visited, stop preaching too and get lost in the everlastingness of catchy one liners, occupy the occupation and the public parks too, mind the parking meters and finally found my very own personal sect: occupy sidewalks!
