Chaos Punk are bands like The Exploited, The Casualties, and their fans... Chaos Punk misinterpret chaos as anarchism. They want "chaos and disorder", not "anarchy and order"... Chaos is a stupid way of life which can be described as drinking beer, having a punk attitude, starting random fight, destroying shit for no reason and talking shit. They're worse than the lumpenproletariat of the society, those morons wouldn't even be helpful in an anarchist society. They like provocation and they are the kind of punks to make Sieg Heil in antifascist shows just to piss people off. You can't even imagine how much shit was started by Chaos Punks in montreal, how many venues were closed because of their attitude, how many fights were started, groups of friends broken, and the bad image that the punks are getting because of them.

Note that in france Chaos Punk is a word to describe the starting years of the punk scene during years 1980 and has nothing to do with the previous description, but those years were still a very dark period for the punk scene. All bands were very ambiguous and the trend was to act like nazi bands even if they were not really nazi, just for the provocation.... The vast majority of Punk/Oi! bands from france in years 1980 are very ambiguous, fencewalker, and almost nazi... There wasn't a single show without nazi skinheads in the crowd. Hopefully today isn't the same thing.

I'm a bit confused, you say that Chaos Punk and its fans are moronic yet I stumbled upon this topic recently:

    viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1726

Reading through most of the posts it seems that a lot of people started on punk by listening this moronic bands, right? If that music and mindset are so shitty then why they began their punk paths with the likes of the Exploited an the Casualties? Why were these "artists" so popular? Why did nobody started with Johnny Thunders, The Saints from Australia or even the Deadboys and such?

In order to start as a punk, do I have to listen to bands similar to the Exploited and the Casualties? Do I have to like violent punk styles such as Oi? From the posts I read on that topic it would seem that way :S. You say Chaos Punk incites destruction and violence, but doesn't Oi incite violence as well? Where's the difference?

By no means I intend to offend anybody, I'm just trying to make sense of the things said in these boards.

Wrong...I don't understand how you can come to such a conclusion from reading the 6 pages of posts on that topic... I think your statistical math skills are a little off, or you just focus on what you think you want to hear....some people did begin to listen to those bands first, then once they realized what the bands were about they moved on, there is nothing wrong with that, no one is born with the "most relevant punk band gene" it's a process that almost all punks go through.
You don't have to do anything as so many of us have now explained to you so many times now, you insist on putting everything in a neat box of rules...have you asked yourself why you insist on this?

So then one can listen to those bands and if they realize they're full of shit they can move on onto other bands and will have no issues with other punks? Well, that's a great thing actually, means punks are much less judgemental than I thought (and for the record I know I'm being judgemental myself). In other words what you mean is that no one can be judged for the first punk bands they listened to? That perhaps due to certain limitations they just didn't have the means to find out about other punk musicians?

It's not about the rules now, it's because people tend to say one thing and then go and do the exact opposite, I've seen this happening with independent media, with punks, with normal people, with everyone in the end, so please forgive me if it is a bit hard for me to believe when you and other members here say that it's ok for me to listen and praise the punk musicians/bands I want to without being discriminated in a punk community.

wtf??? you are comparing skinheads with chaos punks ?? what a fucking joke..... Skinheads doesnt start fights for no reason and they dont start shit everywhere, get venues closed, etc...

Oh and by the way, Chaos punk MUSIC and chaos punks LIFESTYLE is two very different thing... I have almost never seen someone claiming to be a Chaos Punk who ended up to become an anarchist or something good.... It's sad to see but there's not hope for most of those people, and they're the last people we should try to convert to anarchism....

Ok I'm sorry no need to get so upset, I had no idea that Chaos punks were so utterly shitty, and now I understand that just because someone listens to chaos punk (does it comprise uk82 punk and street punk?) doesn't mean they will become one, which seems to be a good thing, and about venues and gigs...

Last year I went to see the Adicts (I know they are apolitical but still like them) and among the punks going there were a bunch that kept spitting on the band!!! I don't know why they did it but I think it's not the first time I've seen this kind of abhorrent attitude towards a punk band. Can it be assumed that this attitude came from chaos punks? Are they the sort who do this kind of thing?.

It seems to me that the whole "chaos punk" thing came from people who fell for the image of punk as portrayed in the media, as violent, alcoholic, borderline sociopaths. This image, as seen in movies like Class of Nuke 'em High (though mostly in jest), Repo Man and Return of the Living Dead attracted violent, alcoholic borderline sociopaths to punk as a culture that embraced those qualities.

I believe in Anarchy by The Exploited from their Punks not Dead album. I think you can see why 'chaos punk' pisses off anarcho-punks.

I believe there used to be a distinction between 'anarchist punk' bands by placing some into chaos punks (most notably The Exploited as they frequently refer to destruction and 'sex and violence' as punk) and others into peace punks (most notably Crass for being one of the first bands to have a powerfully pacifist stance). Of course, on this site anarcho-punk is understood (as I think it should be) punk that is influenced by anarchism the philosophy rather than anarchism the image (specifically the destructive stereotype).

i myself was one of those people who got into punk by first hearing those chaos punk bands and thought it was what it was all about, lots of kids did, but lets face it, the facts are alot of those people that make those bands so popular are just that, kids. i mean i was only like 12 or 13 when i first started discovering what i now call my lifestyle. but as i got older i did myself realize that those views and ideas that 'chaos-punks' revolve around are shit. started listening to bands like crass, appilachan terror unit, oi polloi, conflict etc. and realized being a punk and anarchists wasnt about mindless violence hatred and just plain acting like an idiot, its the exact opposite non the less. so yes i was one of those people so maybe its a good thing to an extent that bands like that are out there, but they're still just ignorant ass holes in my mind

I'm pretty sure I've seen plenty of adults here in my country acting like "Chaos Punks" too, so I don't think it's limited just to kids.

I think there's some confusion here, the majority of chaos punks listen to "street punk", but not all street punk bands adhere to a chaos punk mentality. Bands like Final Conflict, early Unseen, A Global Threat, Aus Rotten, Crucifix, The Restarts and most UK82 bands had very anarchistic views and lyrics and at the very least had songs about heavy socio-political problems in western culture. There were/are bands that are very light with those issues and are considered street punk and some (like The Exploited) blatantly misrepresent the issues all together.

You shouldn't discredit the emotion behind those types of songs and bands, pure anger/visceral contempt is a human emotion/reaction and if you feel the need you should be able to write songs about it; but you should know that you can't build a cohesive life around it and then substitute whatever else with cheap beer.
Absolutely right! It's the Quincy argument 30 years on...

Yeah but you said that a lot of kids were into those bands and therefore they became popular, what I'm saying is that a lot of adults also made it popular so kids aren't the only cause.
