I went to the one in LA that past couple years, there's usually a decent sized black bloc, but it never gets aggressive, as well as many other platforms and factions of people.

Saturday, March 19, 2011: Resist the War Machine!
8th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq
    February 7, 2011

Come to Washington, D.C., on March 19 for veterans-led civil resistance at the White House

March 19 is the 8th anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Iraq today remains occupied by nearly 50,000 U.S. soldiers and tens of thousands of foreign mercenaries.

Saturday, March 19, 2011, the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, will be an international day of action against the war machine.

The war in Afghanistan is raging. The U.S. is invading and bombing Pakistan. The U.S. is financing endless atrocities against the people of Palestine, relentlessly threatening Iran and bringing Korea to the brink of a new war.

While the United States will spend $1 trillion for war, occupation and weapons in 2011, 30 million people in the United States remain unemployed or severely underemployed, and cuts in education, housing and healthcare are imposing a huge toll on the people.

Actions of civil resistance are spreading.

Last Dec. 16, a veterans-led civil resistance at the White House played an important role in bringing the anti-war movement from protest to resistance. Enduring hours of heavy snow, 131 veterans and other anti-war activists lined the White House fence and were arrested.

In Washington, D.C., on March 19 there will be an even larger veterans-led civil resistance at the White House initiated by Veterans for Peace. People from all over the country are joining together for a Noon Rally at Lafayette Park, followed by a march on the White House where the veterans-led civil resistance will take place.

Many people coming to Washington, D.C., will be also participating in the Sunday, March 20 demonstration at the Quantico Marine Base in Virginia to support PFC Bradley Manning. Quantico is one hour from D.C. Manning is suspected of leaking Iraq and Afghan war logs to Wikileaks. For the last eight months, he has been held in solitary confinement, pre-trial punishment, rather than pre-trial detention.

The ANSWER Coalition is fully mobilizing its east coast and near mid-west chapters and activist networks to be at the White House.

In San Francisco, people will gather at 12 noon for a rally at UN Plaza (7th & Market Sts.) followed by a march to Lo. 2 boycotted hotels. The theme of the March 19 march and rally will be “No to War & Colonial Occupation – Fund Jobs, Healthcare & Education – Solidarity with SF Hotel Workers!” 12,000 SF hotel workers, members of UNITE-HERE Local 2, have been fighting for a new contract that protects their healthcare, wages and working conditions.

In Los Angeles, the March 19 rally and march will gather at 12 noon at Hollywood and Vine.

In Chicago, people will converge at Michigan and Congress at 12 noon for a march and rally.

Yeah, I was there last year and it was pretty large, and I'm assuming it'll only be larger this year because of the after glow of Egypt, and the fighting spirit because of Wisconsin.

Yessir. There was black bloc, but obviously don't expect much violence. It's an anti-war protest so any crazy black bloc actions would be ironic. Last year, when I was there, the bloc marched in front of the main speakers, and we were being told by not only cops, but protesters alike to slow down. There's cops on horse's, protesters on floats, but shit, the bloc does what they have to.
Joey, I'll be there, obviously in black, if you shoot me a PM I'll be glad to meet up with you.

March to Hollywood and Highland for Rally

Right on Schrader past the LGBT center to Hollywood Blvd. Left on Hollywood to Highland in front of the Mann's Chinese Theatre. The march will be led by veterans and military families. Closing rally: After the march, there will be a major rally in front of the Chinese Theatre. The total march is around 1.5 miles long.

This anti-war march was initiated by the ANSWER Coalition. It is being built by a coalition of progressive groups in LA. The march and rally are fully permitted. Please bring your friends, family and everyone you know.

Set up on Hollywood between Highland and Orange on the north side of the street. You can do this starting at 10:30am. At this time or afterward, check in at the ANSWER Coalition table or the stage on for information on where you will be able to set up your table. It is strongly recommended that you make a reservation and donation in advance. You can make a reservation and donate in advance by credit card by calling 213-251-1025. A Reservation Organizer will also check in with you at the rally so you can pay your fee if you have not.

Vendor Table: All commercial sales must be approved, call 213-251-1025. The donation for commercial sales is $100.00 (at minimum), unless you have worked out a pre-approved percentage of your sales with the organizers. This rate does not apply to food vendors.

You can also mail your donation for a table with a note indicating what organization you are from to: ANSWER, 137 N. Virgil Ave., #201, Los Angeles, CA 90004. Or make a donation here.
Donate to Make March 19 a Success

The ANSWER Coalition is the organization that has assumed full responsibility for the costs of the stage, sound, and setup at the March 19 anti-war protest in Los Angeles. The cost of the march is $5,000 dollars. Please help the ANSWER Coalition meet these expenses.

Click here to make a contribution to ANSWER by credit card.

You can also make credit card donations over the phone at 213-251-1025. Donations by check should be sent to ANSWER, 137 N. Virgil Ave., #201, Los Angeles, CA 90004. Checks of $50 or more are tax deductible and should be made out to ANSWER/Progress Unity Fund.

Here are some photos a friend and I took of the march/rally in LA. It's ironic because all of the counter protesters were religious. How can somebody counter protest peace, especially when religion is supposed to be based around peace. One religious nut who was following the parade route and harassing us via microphone and mini amp even had the nerve to spew his bullshit from the steps of the Gay and Lesbian Center. Also I hate the 911 truthers. Discrediting the whole rally, making it seem like we're all conspiracy theorists, and that everything that we're saying is just theory, not fact.

Also here's a link for a little summary of it. Of course this got no media coverage, but if there was a tea party rally with even just 5 people, it'd be plastered everywhere...

Many of us were pretty disappointed with the whole thing, other than showing solidarity with other activist groups it just seems like a waste of time...I mean Daniel Elsberg and 100 other protesters were arrested in DC for civil disobedience yesterday but I can't see that happening with these people here in SD...I really think we need to step up our game.... :/

We also had many random strangers harassing some friends of mine for covering their faces. There was this one cop that kept following us. He tried to hide it, but sucked, but he finally came up and asked why we cover our faces, and my friend just ignored him. Later on he wished he would've replied with "why do you carry a gun?". Spiderman on Hollywood Blvd in front of the Chinese Theater also gave us some shit. "Why do you cover your faces? The government's gonna find you man! It's cowardly." Once again we wished we would've replied with: "You of all people should know why you cover your face spiderman!"

why do people cover their faces at protests? it kind of makes them look like bandits, and to the 'normal' observers probably makes it harder to take the protest seriously. is it fear of being photographed or identified?

Because people want to remain anonymous, we get filmed and photographed by police at just about every event and many people don't want a file with their info in it at the disposal of the cops.
