Aldi's a German (? I think German, correct if I'm wrong) supermarket chain that's all low-priced and fairly good quality stuff; they started opening in Australia a few years ago and now they're all over.

Aldi's? Like the place where you are supposed to pay for bags but you use their discarded boxes instead and all the stuff is pretty cheap and the store smells like funk?

We have a chain like that in the NE states called Aldis, and Sav-a-lot...basically the same thing. They were my Ramen-Dealers for many years.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're on the same page regarding Aldi. Good place for essentials. They also tend to get bizarre items that most supermarkets don't sell (multi tools, video games, telescopes, furniture, etc.) on a fairly regular basis, so their dumpsters tend to turn up not only plentiful food, but absurd non-sequitur items as well.

They still sell a beer line in 500ml cans with a German name, but I can't remember what it's called... Anyway, for a while they sold the dark ale variant of the same beer (which I think was nudging 6%) for about 5 bucks a litre. Entirely off topic, but it was some damn cheap booze.

Liquor and shit never shows up in the dumpsters of theirs I've seen, though. In fact, I know drink is atrocious for you and the people around you, but I'd be curious to know if anyone has ever successfully dumpstered liquor? I never see it anywhere.

haha it's called shulten brau XD here in holland it's only 50 eurocents for half a liter

    but on topic:
I never really dumpstered stuff but I do go around time sometimes on trash day get inside the shops and just ask if I can take that stuff (mostly just large pieces of cardboard or thick paper for stencilling and other art projects) mostly they're pretty cool with it just say "hello I am an artist and I noticed the stuff outside could I check if there is something in your trash I could use" and 9 out of 10 times they are pretty cool about it
    :ecouteurs:
    nutz!

Alcohol only ages, that's the idea of fermentation, ya' know, 100 year old wines? Or thats what I choose to believe. I doubt beer can go bad, only other than intoxicating you more.

kindof... Beer has an expiry date (why, i'm not sure...). So a mate of mine who used to work in a bottle-o used to bring home slabs of out-of-date beer, I hung around him fairly regularly during that time :ecouteurs:
Unfortunately, it was usually the shit that doesn't sell (cos its shit), but i got used to drinking past-expiry Toohey's New longnecks quite quickly.

Yeah, I had a mate who told me that most beer carries an expiry date just because basically everything has to. He did tell me, though, that beer in lighter coloured class bottles actually can "expire" pretty quickly depending on your definition (I think only in extreme cases where the beer is left near a window, or at the front of the shop; as the light-coloured glass allows the beer to age rapidly by exposure to heat and light). I don't know if that's true or if it's just something beer nerds say, but it's something to think about, especially in a world where everything pretty much has an expiry date figured out even when it's irrelevant or needlessly confusing.

Beer has more water, less alcohol than other forms of booze so ican see why it can go bad eventually. It usually ends up going back to the vendor in exchange for newer merchandise instead of making it to the dumpster.

Beer companies, coke/pepsi, frito/lay etc. all tend do do that. Maybe the dumpsters at their distribution centers might be worth a look.

Yes but it will only stay good if properly stored, otherwise the intoxication won't happen and it will make u very sick. this is why wine cellars are dark, wine is stored on it's side and they are kept in temperature controlled environments. I actually saw an episode of Pawn Stars where a guy brought in an original bottle of Dom Perinogm (i know its misspelled) and it was worthless because it was stored upright in a liquor cabinet.
