    Anybody here have kids and still active in the punk scene? How do you do it? I think it's possible, but I get looks and comments like I'm fucking insane. I also think I might look kinda weird being the only guy at shows showing people pics of my son like an old parent (my GF is guilty of this more than I am, as she owns a cell phone).

    My son just turned 1 and I wouldn't trade my life with him for anything. I wouldn't trade being a part of the scene I've been involved in for 16 years either.

    I can't wait until he's older so i can take him to his first show.

    I have a 21 yr old a 20 yr old and a 15 yr old and I never wavered one bit, they were all going to shows as babies with me as I used to promote as well as play, my two youngest both play guitar but none of them turned out to be punks or anarchists though they do enjoy quite a bit of punk and 'alternative' music. They are great kids and are much more responsible and mature than their crazy pops will ever be....

    That's awesome. My biggest concern about taking him to a show is nazis showing up to start shit while he's there.

    He seems to like my style of music but that could just be wishful thinking on my part lol.

    Post #100. Party over here. \m/

    Yep, I'm a parent of four.
    12, 10, 8 and 4. The four year old is too young to take to gigs but the 12, 10 and 8 have been to one each. They were all ages gigs. Didn't have any bother. They didn't like the music :ecouteurs: but each to their own and horses for courses as they say.

    we have triplets, proud girls already, 2 years last month and except low volume sessions in the basement they have never been to gigs - just imagine to show up with two arms full of squirming babies eager not to miss a single sight... but they were already arrested with their favorite dad vassil for a few hours and they tried almost successful to make a cop's dog defecting during a recent police raid...
    i don't know if they grow up to be punks, but the girls prove Kropotkin every day now: born anarchists, fast and constantly learning how to deal with people and things, always sticking together and sharing their stuff, but ganging up to fight as one if somethings wrong too - we already have discussion with the "youth brigade" about things they like/don't like - parental authority isn't first on their lists, but respect is - and they already ask for it.
    they are still very young, sometimes it's difficult to adapt fast enough to the needs of their age, three is a crowd hard to snuggle at once with only two arms and the daily morning raid while still in bed is like an invasion, including brought along stacks of childrens books to read to them or my acoustic guitar, if they are already fit enough to demand entertainment - with joni mitchell songs, "big yellow taxi" is the actual favorite and i curse the responsible neighbor each day... but regardless of that: i wouldn't give the girls away, at least not for long...

    Damn dude, I can't imagine having more than one kid. The one I have wears me out lol. He started walking (running) out of nowhere, and he's big for his age so he can reach EVERYTHING. The whole parental authority/discipline issue is something that troubles me. I don't care for authority and I don't want to be a hypocrite (sp?) but I have to tell him NO and put him down for time outs now and then. I haven't really figured that out yet.
    He's practically smarter than I am, and he gets smarter everyday it's fucking scary lol.

    Isn't that like telling someone what to do ? "hey kid you must be punk" ? dunno, but seems like you are trying to educate him like you want, and it's not his will

    The story started as a full catastrophe with the message "congrats, there are more than two heart sounds", like: welcome-to-the-worst-circle-your-nightmare-has-just-begun...
    The Three Graces almost ate up their slip of a taken-by-surprise-mother before being born in a surgery tri-saster - and together we almost took us to the brink of a family drama when they were that small - until we took a full stop and started learning about being five human beings (or at least two and a youth brigade, following some local theories...) - and the youngest are setting the general speed of progress and evolution for everyone.
    They weren't planned - we were just too stupid to mind birth control sometimes while roving around in europe with the heads full of elsewheres and when the doctor Lil visited on somebody elses' insurance card came up with the "good news", we were completely unprepared and well over the 12-weeks freedom of choice. Emergency plans to put the girls up to adoption went under in a nightmare of exhaustion, fear and compunctions - and I still get the shakes remembering how the level of shit we - and especially Lil' - were in was rising and rising and... 'till the brake came at last.
    It took quite some time to realise what was going on then, but since we did, the whole story developed it's very own dynamics - yes, it's almost fantastic and Lil' is right too, my favorite trinity proves ol'Kropotins' right about the natural human nature, we just need the freedom to be what we really are.
    They love their mothers singing (who is joni mitchell in disguise, she even studied it), 60's stuff like stones, kinks, animals and pretty things, ska (dancing "tango" on the specials), Jeffrey Lewis and The Jam from the more recent parts of the collective collection, but the girls don't like high volumes - I guess their ears still have to grow a bit...
    They are still too young to make me think about if they grow up to be their parents kind and everyone here takes some care not to indoctrinate them with punk or politics - but they already are very aware of some things, not only because our trouble with the cops but also because the conflicts between people in the neighborhood - and the girls sheer hatred for boneheads is not only genetically determined, they already had to face the scum harassing immigrant kids at the public playground.
    The parental thingie took some time to be realised too when the girls started moving on their own - I was getting the hang of "no" and "don't" really fast - because they are three at the same age and the words soon start echoing between your own ears - so we developed/adapted "guerilla education":
    Fooling around with the kitchen stove or matches left by some adult? Let's make some cookies or a practice session lighting/blowing out candles until their curiosity is sated or they just get bored - next time they may ask for it and they are getting more tolerant to "wait a minute, I just have to finish this..." if they trust that they'll get the attention and support they want/need. We have to keep the rules - so they learn to accept them and keep them too. Little incidents are still occuring, but the girls are growing up and learning fast.
    Forget about collateral damage like half eaten CD's or "gracefully" new illustrated books - but always volunteer to contribute to brand new toy block architecture or give support to the tribe of cave girls taking domicil under the eating table... time is a problem but it's the key too, so you have to take it even if it's difficult - or just that very interesting doggie do on the pavement, that needs to be examined by the young analysts - thank punk we live in the bad part of town, where this rotten punk waiting for three cute angels to finish their business is not sticking out enough to make some good citizen call the police.
    The girls social talents are astonishing, being a parent becomes less and less important/necessary and I wonder how much they learn from each other as soon as one of them develops something new. I don't know if it's some weird kind of mirror-effect because they have so much in common while still being individual.
    I don't care what they will become someday, I just want to make sure that they become able to make their own choices - at least to prevent them repeating their parent's mistakes, especially their favorite dad's...

    From what I read, literally NOBODY said that...

    He can like what he likes. It would be cool if he liked what I liked. I'm not pushing it. And he's only one, he'll like pretty much everything until he becomes more independent. I mainly can't wait for him to go to shows simply so I can go without having to get a babysitter every time.

    concerning the aussiekraut bedlam:
    butcher and vassil - izzit boyz uniting in anzac-stalingrad? ...and i was worrying why the girls fooled around about this "blue crumb thing" making this strange voice... (it's "krümelmonster" in german).
    i should have suspected who was pulling the strings...
    and btw: the girls already learned some turkish from their peers - Geçmiş olsun - good recovery! :ecouteurs: :ecouteurs:

    shanananana, don't believe i wouldn't see behind your scheme, dr. butcher....
    [IMG]
    You'll need:
    * 1 cup rolled oats
    * 3/4 cup dried coconut
    * 2 tbsp boiling water
    * 4 oz butter
    * 1 cup all purpose flour
    * 1 cup sugar
    * 1/2 tsp baking soda
    * 1 tbsp golden syrup (or dark corn syrup)

    Directions:
    Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine oats, coconut, flour, and sugar in a medium-sized bowl. In a saucepan, add the butter and syrup and stir over low heat until the butter melts. Mix the baking soda with the boiling water and add to the saucepan. Pour the contents of the saucepan into the flour mixture and stir with a spoon until it is solid dough. Drop small balls of the dough onto a lightly greased pan and flatten with your hand, but allow the cookies room to spread. Bake the cookies for 20 minutes or until they are golden brown. Enjoy! :p
