I've always contended that you can't be 'punk' and Christian at the same time so I wrote a blog about it at http://www.utterlygodless.com entitled Christian Punk isn't Punk, and it's hardly Christian, either.

Read it, tell me what you think, or if you disagree or not...

i just skimed but i agree with you. from what i was taught of cristianity is that goverment is good and is needed...that could of just been a little political bais put in there but oh well. how i see it is just people trying to get in there to "save" people by doing the whole "hey look at me im like you. come join my religion" thing i personally stay away from religion because of the whole controling factor and how extreme people get about it. i met that toney dillenger guy on religilous and you whould not belive what they didnt show on the movie..he was getting attacked for his belifes because they didnt fit other people idealogy. and hes a great guy smart and everything but as expected from what seems a lot of religious people its either you think the way we think or your evil

christian belief was concepted to convince naturally free people of the blessings of the slavers chain:
you don't have to think, you don't have to fight, it's all been done by others for you, and if you finally die, you'll go to heaven. Really easy isn't it?
Take that away from a confessing slave and he'll get violent, 'cause there's nothing left for him... sad story.

being a christian punk is a weird thing, anti-christs like me don't like it, but there's no code about what a punk must be, or there shouldn't be a code.

maybe it's a sign of a change - christians become punks and start thinking for themselves, then becoming anti-christs and for this, punk's always a good start... :beers:

ps: religion is opium for the people - and you shouldn't do hard drugs!

I agree with you. I think when people say they are christian and punk, they are the kid of punks that think punk is sum 41, greenday, shopping at hot topic etc. Or in the case of what i see everyday, catholic punks who listen to dropkick murphys.
I said it before and i'll say it again, you can't be anti-authoritative (be it punk, anarchist, both, etc) and be religious. Religious belief is excepting that some made up being has power and authority over you.
Both of these should be made into pins or something, cheers to your wit Wassily :beers:

oh, don't mention, must have been the holy trinity slipping into this fucked up keyboard, and I exorcised it already -
but serious, the one about opium for the people is a very old running gag in the german scene - where - in this I agree with you - catholic/astrologic/whatever drops kids became a sometimes really sickening view. Let's hope there's an evolution...

Maybe it's just because I live in a country where nobody really takes religion serious anymore, but to be quite frank, I think it is ok to be religious and punk at the same time. One of my good friends are a die-hard diy punk, but also a mormon. And I don't care what the fuck he believes in, as long as he's not forcing his religious believes into me or anybody else.

Of cause, it would be stupid to believe in, and support what I would call totalitarian religious ideas, and in the same time be a punk and/or an anarchist, but as long as you keep your religious ideas as a personal guideline and nothing more, i don't give a shit what people believe in. For me, all religion is stupid, and a waste for time, but if someone need this shit to stay alive, then it's their own problem, not mine.

also, I find it just a little bit funny, every time people are talking shit about religion, and at the same time throw devilhorns and wears an upside-down crucifix, or a pentagram...that's religion, too :lmao:

    I know, I've read it.

And don't get me wrong, I know the's a lot of christian psychos out there, just as well as there's a lot of muslim, jewish, pegan, buddist, satanic, whatever, psychos out there.

But like I said before, all religion is stupid.

I'm just tied of people only raising critique towards christianity, when it is the whole concept behind religion that is the problem. But of cause I can imagine that if you live i US, you get pretty sick of Christianity, since it seems to be everywhere theese days.

Here in Dk, the only religion people seems to be holding is consumerism, apathy and egocentric pride, besides when it comes to drawning offensive pictures, discrimination on everyone who ain't white heterosexuals, and when you can use it as an excuse to demolish autonomous cultural centers!

Yeah i am in the US,
And i do agree that people tend to focus on fighting only christianity.
It's simply where i focus most of my energy as i was raised in a christian household
Religion in general is the real problem

although i look at Buddhism as more of a philosophy than a religion,
though there are many different forms of it

I agree with that "blog", i don't understand how anyone can be a christian punk. It would be like a fascist anarchist or a vegan butcher.
I've never talked to a so called christian punk, but any really christian or cathilic people I have talked to seem to live in an alternate reality! They are dumbfounded or angry if you question any part of their beliefs. It's brainwashing reminds me of white nationalist b.s.

Veganarchy, you pretty much explain how I feel in your post above.

The community I live in has a lot of Sikhs but luckily part of their religion is to NOT push anyone to join, so that's a plus haha.

Also thanks SurgeryxD, that picture made me laugh pretty hard :lmao:

What a lot of people forget is, Christianity has its own share of revolutionaries.

Gustavo Guiterrez, Dominican priest and author of "A Theology of Liberation" helped form an ideology heavily influenced by left-wing politics.

Dorthy Day, founded of the Catholic Worker movement, considered herself an anarchist.

Daniel Berrigan, Jesuit priest, used methods of protest during the Vietnam war that were nothing short or radical... And despite the beliefs of his Church is still an avid supporter of LGBT rights.

Doing a little digger reveals similar things. Punk and Christianity are not inherently opposed forces. That said, most Christian punk isn't punk. It uses their music as a means of evangelicalism not radicalism. So... Christians can be punks, but Christian punk can't be punk.

    Hey. I enjoyed your blog.

And Christian Anarchist? Anarchy is anti-authourity. Isn't God supposed to be, like, an authority figure?

And just a random question, are ghosts religious?

my personal favorite Bakunin argued that:
    "the idea of god implies the abdication of human reason and justice;
it is the most decisive negation of human liberty, and necessarily ends in the enslavement of mankind, in theory and practice."
consequently, Bakunin reversed Voltaire's famous aphorism that if God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him, writing instead that:
"if god really existed, it would be necessary to abolish him."

    (ghosts = spirits?)

Christians in punk and christian anarchists will constantly get a bad wrap due to the "majority" opinion ,which in my view is just as hypocritical as the very constrictive laws they despise so much. I agree completely on church laws being utterly ridiculous and i myself refuse to abide by what a MAN claiming gods place tells me (as you will find with a quite a few christian anarchists). However to mistreat or condemn one in the anarchist movement based on his/her faith bears a very close resemblance to fascism. "Athiests only, Christians in the back of the bus". I see the argument in many of the athiests views that christian anarchists are less valid due to them following "Laws". Well I ask if you are any more valid while preaching your laws at me? "Thou must fall in line with all other anarchists,or else face condemnation"

Ones Personal religion should be of the least importance when trying to hold together a world already fueled with intolerance.

first: get your knowledge about fascism straight, sorry but it's a stupid deathbeat argument and i really get the hang of it. nobody here fights you until death for your personal believe and nobody sends you to the back of the bus, re-education camp ect.
if the majority opposes your point of view on an open internet forum - meant to exchange opinions - take it or leave it, but don't play the "oppressed minority" card and put yourself in the corner - that's too easy.
nobody here preaches you laws - people give their opinions and they tell you that you are contradictory in what you think - from their point of view, without any consequence for you in real life except that no one confirms your belief. you put yourself in the corner blaming the majority-opinion for what - just not agreeing with you?
