Anyone out there know of any squats or flop houses that are in the states or europe?
I have a week left in my home, and if I don't come up with rent, I am out on the streets.
Most likely I am going to end up selling my vehicle for money to eat, or pay someone to get me abroad.
    Any information would be fantastic.

not the best idea to post locations of squats openly. cops look at boards like this and like shutting down illigal squats

you cant shut down C Squat. the people bought this place for a dollar from a foreclosed auction. Plus the place has been around since the 70's. Bands like Nausea, and LoC, Choking V came out of that place, so its safe to say it's there to stay.

Thanks for the info Probe

didnt say c squat was illigal. i was saying squats are illigal and police look for address of active squats so they can shut them down. but if you around montreal i know a kfc that burnt down. me and a few frinds broke through a sheet of ply wood and gaind entry into the basement. the fire did not touch it so its still good to chill in. but a few crackheads found it so i stoped going in there at night. but hey if would be a good place to crash if u really had to.

its hard to list squats though becasue alot of the time they are changing. your cant stay in one spot for to long of you will get busted by people seeing you coming in and out or other ways. but they arent hard to find. just walk around find a building thats been shut down. bust in. helps if you have a crow bar or some kind of prybar. i rember hurting my foot pretty bad kicking through a sheet of plywood infront of a door. i was on all kinds of fun stuff so it did not phase me at the time but the next day i could hardly walk.

Squats are everywhere and dime a dozen. Reason squats get shut down is because of lists on the net and over population of certain squats. Loud, drunk individuals are a factor too. There was squat years and years ago here in O.C. , Hunt. Bch. inparticular called the mental manor. This house was 3 blocks from downtown H.B. and the pier. Once the local Nazi good squad got word of it they used it as a flop house and hide out until the H.B. pig patrol found out and raided it. I was there and you can hear the raid going down on Don't No's album on Mystic Records. Some weird shit, they found a dead homeless mexican guy I knew in a boarded up closet. He had been stabbed and his throat cut, buy the boneheads, 3 weeks prior to being found! I knew this guy, he would catch pigeons at the beach and roast them for his dinner in the livingroom of this squat.

ahah i remember mental manor...yeah i heard some really weird shit went down in there. a friend of mine used to squat it....oc, la, or any major city(ies) are pretty bad for squatting. homeless squatters aren't always friendly counter-culture folks....some will kill you for you shoes. plus cops raid squats on an almost daily basis around here.

in all honesty, if you can't find a good squat in a more rural area where you can get some farming going or something like that, then i'd say go to europe...they have much much friendlier laws for that kind of thing (at least from what i've read, i could be wrong)

ya europe is good. I back packed across europe in '90 and stayed in some pretty nice squats, mostly in England and a few in Scotland. England has the more relaxed squating laws over other countries and from what i learned its actually quite legal there as long as the squats are kept clean and the inhabitants are peacful. I was amazed at how well mannered squatters were and how clean and organized the squats are. defintely not like here in the states.

You can also try to get in touch with people who are part of the scene in the countries your are looking for squats in. Think venues, political groups, bands, bookstores, bookers/promoters etc. But please, keep this info FAR AWAY from public pages, such as this one!

Good luck on your adventure

i hear Philly has a huge squatting scene, I once saw a documentary where a guy explained that 90 percent of the squats werent called squats the residents just refered to them as the houses there family had lived in for 15 years i thought that was pretty cool
