Crass was one of the first bands I listened to when I fist got into punk. I liked the sound because it was like nothing I heard before; all bands nowadays try too hard to sound good. It's the fact that they sounded bad, and also their lyrics, what made them good. They were also what got me into anarchism.

Personally I find Crass' music just as brilliant as their lyrics. It doesn't click with a lot of people but whatever, I fuckin' love it.

i dont think crass abrasively evolving sound was meant to gain fans, but to focus on the shit which occured during that time and they did it with anarchism-an remain anarchists to this day.

i still am at awe with alot of the wicked stuff they put out, B cunt is a fave as well as how does it feel...

anarchism through punk is excellent art with a stand up community... "punk" is just something to consider. I like seeing anarchism without punk as well. maybe its the contemplation of beauty and the anger toward those who fuck with that.

I dunno why people knock their music, some of the arrangement is genius. Mother Earth and Gasman Cometh, I first heard these 30 years ago, and I still never heard anything that sounds like them. They songs that you hear once, and never forget. Individual musicians not great, just the way simple elements are combined into whole. Later stuff is kinda crap though, they ran out of ideas, or tried to hard, or something. I thing they whine too much too, that gets annoying sometimes. Banned From Roxy, another one with great arrangement, but what the fuck, they moaning cos some venue didn't like them? Never much liked playing there anyway, stop fucking crying, init.

crass added alot of art to their sound, in their song Nagasaki Nightmare most of the time it was commentary by news or scientist talking about damages of the bomb just to end the war, the lyrics arent at their best in the song but the guitar of N.A. Palmer was set perfectly for the track, if you dont understand what im saying then listen to Nagasaki Nightmare

Penny Rimbaud claims that most of crass's music was stolen from classical pieces and movements. Not sure how serious that comment is, but i wouldn't doubt it. Eve Libertine's solo album sound s like mellow jazzy shit, Pete Wright's project Judas II is sort of anti-folk, Penny's post crass projects were sort of avant garde music over spoken word, the only member of crass to continue doing punk was Steve Ignorant. (though honestly i don't know what some of the other members did musically afterwards...)

cry baby! 3 of my favorite conflict songs feature Steveo (message to who, slaughter of innocents, and mutual assured destruction, all on against all odds, the rest of that Ep is awful though.)

haha crass is cute. The drums sound like a washing machine at times, and you can really nod your head to it naahhh mean? Also, The feeding of the 5000 inspired me to look up silly jesus miracles that people actually believe, and it was interesting how they chose to name their album after such a ridiculous miracle. I can see why you don't like them though. They can be pretty arrogant at times. They are also like waaaay to trendy right? Underground good... trendy baaad. I still love them though.

    to crass. <3 <3 <3

Based on what I've read so far, I feel like I'm part of the minority who actually enjoys Crass for their music, as well as their lyrics/message. I don't think I've ever heard, or ever will hear a band that sounds anything like them. For a group of musicians who could hardly play their instruments, they were able to come up with some amazingly complex and interesting music.

Seriously though, listen to Alternative, they are the most similar band to Crass I can think of, and they sound better too.

alternative doesn;t sound like crass, they actually knew how to play and tune their instruments and use actual chords. Agreeing with the others who said it, i;ve never heard anytinng else tha tsounds like crass. they have a hard sound to copy.
