Sign a petition asking for the ouster of Tea Party leader Mark Williams.

This came to us today from ColorofChange.org, an organization dedicated to "making sure all Americans are represented, served and protected -- regardless of race or class." It is well-documented, with links to more information about each of the points outlined about the Tea Party & racism. We urge FSTV viewers to read it and, if they agree, take action.

Earlier this week the NAACP called on the Tea Party to reject the racism that exists within its own ranks. Not surprisingly, Tea Party activists were outraged and denied that racism is a part of their movement — despite a clear, documented pattern of bigotry and hate.

Then Thursday, one of the Tea Party's biggest leaders proved the NAACP's point. Mark Williams, the public face of the Tea Party Express, attacked the NAACP as a "racist" organization, and said "they make more money off of race than any slave trader, ever." He went on to write a blog post implying that Black people don't like to work or think for themselves, that we depend on welfare and that we want to benefit from White people's tax dollars so we can have a widescreen TV in every room. Sadly, we're not exaggerating.

If Tea Party leaders want to have any credibility on race, they need to start by kicking Mark Williams out of their movement. If they refuse, it will be clearer than ever that Tea Party leaders accept and rely on racism as an integral part of their approach to politics.

You can help us take the first step. Please join us in challenging Tea Party leaders to reject Williams' statements and remove him from his position at the Tea Party Express. And please ask your friends and family to do the same. It takes just a moment.

The NAACP was absolutely right in calling out the tea party, and we applaud them for doing so. The NAACP has a history of combating racism and seeking a more just country for all Americans, and their action was a demonstration of that commitment.

While some of us want to brush the Tea Party off as fringe, the reality is that they are attempting to build political power, and it's important that they not embrace the kind of racism that Mark Williams represents. Of course, if they choose to do so, then it's important to make clear to all Americans that they are a home for racism and bigotry.

The racism we've seen within the Tea Party movement is dangerous — it's the promotion of a hateful agenda under the guise of political empowerment. Forcing the hand of Tea Party leaders is important if we want to prevent bigotry and hate from driving mainstream political conversations, and worse, public policy.

If enough of us act together, we can force the Tea Party leaders to make a choice — to take real action to reject racism or to accept that the Tea Party will be rightfully seen as a movement that welcomes and benefits from the lowest forms of bigotry. You can help us make that happen by adding your voice below.

    Thanks and Peace,

-- James, Gabriel, William, Dani, Milton and the rest of the ColorOfChange.org team

I personally don't think signing petitions is gonna change a damn thing, but it's important people understand the threat from this so called grass roots movement. :@

Yeah tea party is fucking shit.

But you are right, signing petitions is never going to change anything, especially on the internet. It has no legal value, anybody can sign the name of whoever they want and you can add fake names to the list..

Mark Williams is a moronic racist no doubt, but he pales in comparasion to some others such as Barbara Coe and John Tanton, Wanye Lutton and a host of neo nazi groups that are directly involved in their respective Tea Party as well. The radical anti-immigration crowd and Nazis alike love the Tea Party and the Tea Party leaders, even though they wont call themselves 'leaders' know it. They're apparently alright with it which is unfortunate for those in there who are genuinely not racist, just upset with the system.

NAACP, liberal-ass lawyers who will sue anybody for anything (just like any lawyer organization) would call me a racist if i were to speak out about losing a job to someone who was less qualified than me based on color. Im not denying that their isnt racism within the tea party, but ive been victimized by reverse racism too, and the NAACP does that too (not saying this example is it).

Thank you ryan, pretty fuckin' cut and dry and disgusting....these motherfuckers aren't fooling anybody. If people are behind this movement they are doing so with eyes wide open and I for one will not be accepting of their doublespeak or forgetting where they stood in the future.

It's amazing that they would even try to deny they have racists in there. It's been well documented by independant bloggers and the media at large. Stormfront members have apparently no shame in saying they're trying to use the Tea Party as a tool for racial war.

What's even funnier is that Mark Williams then goes on national television and says the tea party is "about human rights" (no lie, I swear...)

I know your beef is with butcher ( :lmao: ) and I completely understand your position, but I don't believe in 'reverse racism' only because I think racism is racism regardless of what race/ethnicity perpertrates it.

I have lived in, played shows in, walked through, these areas were you cannot go through because you're white and its a load of bullshit. In the the most dangerous areas in the most dangerous cities in the United States, I had a concierge at a hotel plead with me not to walk through the 9th ward in New Orleans because "I would never make it out alive" I walked to that show and walked back with a few incredulous glances the worst I received. Life is what you make it Veg Barb, and take it easy with calling people "ignorant fuck's" :ecouteurs:

because it sounds more politically correct for it to be called reverse racism and not just racism. the people who are very pc like to think that only white people can be racist and think it sounds racist to say that someone non-white is being racist, so they call it reverse racism to make it sound a little nicer and that racism among non-whites is rare. It's a weird concept and i don't fully get it either :/
