Obviously there are numerous methods, when your circumstances are conducive to it, to make strides towards nurturing an Anarchistic community. But what about when your circumstances don't allow you to partake of many anarchistic actions? As mentioned in my introductory post I have a family, consisting of some children, which rely on my presence, so were I to engage in any radical actions and risk imprisonment, what would happen to my family? This is just one concern in my own personal situation. So I suppose the purpose of this post is to discuss methods which a person can pursue, concerning anarchism, regardless of their situation.

In my personal experience, the limitations of having a family and trying to pursue anarchism can be frustrating - at times even depressing to realize how careful you have to be when you feel the need to partake of radical action. Another unceasing source of frustration for me is my location. I live in an area which is completely devoid of any kind of Anarchist community (I think the closest thing are the few conservative liberals - which are damn near the same thing as the right-wingers). These factors constantly remind me of how isolated I am in my beliefs (other than the ideals shared by my wife and I), and whenever any conflict occurs that I feel deserves protest, the best I can find to do is a personal boycott of the opposition. I've found that there are things that I can do, given my situation, that sate my need to boot the system.

Acquiring knowledge about what I can do is a constant for me. Often the only solace I get comes from reading and watching documentaries which provide me with options that I can utilize to make what stands I can, in an otherwise stagnant community. I also avoid driving our vehicle whenever possible by walking/skating/biking instead. I try to attend the local things that have any hint of subversion including "Earth Day" events, Farmers Markets, and the Food Not Bombs that happens on the weekends. I have tried in vain to spread the word by handing out free literature such as Slingshot or the Microcosm catalogs, although usually met with luke-warm enthusiasm which never leads to anything. On a more superficial level I try to sport patches and such which have obvious messages, hoping that maybe someone will catch on, or at least someone will possibly consider something socially important that maybe they hadn't thought of before.

Off the top of my head those are the small things I do. given my extremely adverse conditions, to provoke something of a community or movement in a place that largely wants nothing to do with it.

If anyone on here has any input to add PLEASE DO SO!

hm what you want to do also depends on what kind of anarchist do you want to be...
for example if you are a syndicalist, or like the idea of being one, you could try to contact the nearest syndicat and get to work with it, maybe you could also talk to your fellow workers about it. And i guess there is an indymedia-collective... maybe there is also a antifa for which you could document nazi stuff?
this stuff wont get you arrested and you dont have to be physically together very often

and of course the most important part is to educate one self. Reading and Writing.

I understand where you are coming from. I too am a married man and have to tread carefully in order maintain a stable household for my family as well as staying true to my beliefs. All one can do is put whatever energy, time & resources they can into the cause. Be it Booklets,Promoting anarchist bands,or even partaking in forums such as this.Every step is another step forward no matter how small,It all helps.

Haha, well unless you start an anarchist commune or something out there. Being in the woods or plains are great places to start small communities like this i think. Being a backwoodshome man, i love being out in the middle of nowhere.

Yea i have a partner and a child to worry about when it comes to certain actions too. But i found a partner who is actually willing to help in some ways. Especially providing transportation. Where to start though... i do a lot, but i wish i could do a lot more. Responsibility has me distracted a lot. But a lot of the morals and ideals sung in songs i follow day in and day out. Its extremely disheartening in my travels to find people who listen to the same music but do NOTHING to support it in practice. I mean nothing.

I am also a huge sympathizer of ALF/ELF practices, but i DO NOT KNOW ANYONE OR ANYTHING THAT ACTUAL MEMBERS DO.

i also live in an area with almost no leftist thinking to speak of. i talk to people about my views to little avail at best i made some socialists. its hard to talk to right wingers about anarchy because its such an alien concept to them they are so entrenched in their world view that they quiet can't wrap their heads around the idea. to them anti capitalist sentiment is the same as fascism and socialism is evil treachery, anarchy is a hard sell. by the way russ is that a mike mignola pic?
