I think an awful lot of people are anarchists, but just haven't realised it yet.

I definitely agree. I like to talk politics with my grandma, who's as conservative and right-wing as they come, but without actually using the word "anarchist," we just talked about the political philosophy, and she agreed with a lot of it whole-heartedly.

Yeah, liberty, equality, peace, etc, hard to see how any sane person could disagree.

none understand the true meaning of those words.

The french republic official slogan is "LIBERTY - EQUALITY - FRATERNITY" and everyone supposedly agree to these values, even the most radical of the extreme-right politicians say they are backing up their politics with the "french values" (liberty equality fraternity).... what a joke

I have such mixed feelings about punk going mainstream. I believe the public has the right to access quality art and artists have the right to share it in the ways they feel necessary. Still it aggravates me when bands who have revolutionary lyrics sell out to guitar hero **cough DK,sex pistols cough** but I dont know if maybe thats just a different medium that allows good art to get to a larger audience. I guess the real issue for me is finding the point at which musics message is diluted by its popularity.

If we expand the underground we would need no mainstream

Imo, the problem is that trends aren't taken all that seriously, especially when they're only backed up by a bunch of pre-adolescent girls and boys :lmao:

So, anarcho punk and anarcho music in general tends to be really straight forward about what they think (with songs like "Nazi Punks Fuck Off", "Free Speech For the Dumb", "Nazi Scum", "Bash the Fash", "Death or Glory", "Police on My Back" etc.) in order for it to be easily understood by the capitalist fuck ups and the nazi and fascist scum and to express our discontent in a direct way. And maybe that's what hooked some of you up at first but as for me, I considered myself an anarchist before I started listening to anarcho punk bands and what made me be sure of that was all of the texts and books I read and maybe some conversations with my dad and such and those are the things that really convert people, not the music.

So, if you ask me, anarchist authors, figures and maybe some movies should be mainstream...I mean, isn't that the point? We can't aim towards an anarchist society without people being well informed and true anarchists, ready to not only fight beside us against the capitalist system but to help make the anarchist society a stable and "healty" one!

Anarcho punk and anarcho music should be underground because it's one of the things that makes anarchy a counter-culture but anarcho music isn't what makes us anarchist. Ideals, union, anti-capitalism, anti-fascism etc., that's what defines a real anarchist and what differenciates us from phony, Green Day-capitalist-ass licking morons.

Talk about a thread that is a colossal failure, it wasn't the music i was referring to as needing to go mainstream (and by mainstream i didn't mean mtv and warped tour.) I meant the anarchist movement in general. I'm sure there are a lot of anarchists in the world who don't give a shit about punk, my whole point was that if we don;t get people outside our collective circle involved or interested in anarchism, we will never see it as a way of life. period.

That's kind of what I said. So, yea, I agree 100%.
It's pretty obvious though...If we want an anarchist society, people in general will also have to be anarchist.
