    Re: good jobs for anarchist?

human greed is based upon natural instinct which is derived from a time where you HAD to fight for your daily meal and had to eat as much as you could because tomorow you might not have one. That is my theory at least which i think is based in enough fact. The ultimate "job" for an anarchist is none. If you must be employed though aim for a job that helps people directly in which you have something to counteract natural human greed. I understand my hypocrisy in saying this being that i work minimum wage 40 hours a week but what can i say? Legal fees are a bitch.

Do whatever you want as long as it doesn't clash with your own moral and ethical considerations and as long as it's not against your own ideas and beliefs. Obviously, as said before, any job that helps with the growth and well-being of the community and has a real impact on it is a great job.

I, for example, would like to become an accademic (either in the fields of history or philosophy, got a year to decide what to specialise in) because I think that university teaching actually has a great potential to help people make up their own worldview and could possibly lead them to question certain things. All the better if then I can educate people on alternatives to the current system!

Well working for yourself is always better than working for someone else so if you have a computer, spare time and an interest in learning 3D modelling you could DL Blender for free from here... http://www.blender.org/
then DL Python for free from here... http://www.python.org/
Then join Shapeways for free here... http://www.shapeways.com/

Once you have Blender and Python installed and made an account with Shapeways you can then create your own online shop for your 3D creations and start to generate some income which can go straight into a Paypal account freely available here... https://www.paypal-business.co.uk/?mpch=ads

Shapeways will look after all the details of turning your 3D models into physical models, shipping, billing etc and your cut will head into your paypal account and all for free, no overheads and no being a slave in someone elses company :D

Good luck to all that take it up.

you wont sway me on this. if you are so weak to let power or money corrupt you, you aren't a true anarchist. if you are in a position to gain power or money, there are so many positive ways to use it to help others and destroy the innerworkings of capitalism. Saying that it will corrupt you black and white is bullshit. If you think it would corrupt you, then you place your own needs and desires above the general populations needs, and are selfish even before you are in a position of power, and thus, not a true anarchist.

give me some examples of helping to destroy the inner workings of capitalism (while also being a gear in their fuckin machine)... im not arguing now im really just curious as to what powerful jobs will help you hurt it from within while still holding the job.

for shit like that you're gonna need other people with similar mindsets in high up positions, too. not to mention all the fraud and other law breaking you'll have to do to make a real difference, which puts you at risk for lawsuits and jail time. not to mention the fact that getting high up will require you to betray these morals you have. for example, you might end up signing a paper to crush a town library and put a factory in place of it.

sorry but it really wouldn't work unless you're the luckiest genius in the world.

The best way to take down a large corporation like that isn't to get into high-power positions. It's well known that a company could not work efficiently if it weren't for the hundreds of low-level employees doing all the dirty work. If you're seriously looking to take down a company like that, you need a lot of support and an organized low-level sabotage of many different sections of the company. If you hit all the support beams at once, the whole thing will collapse from the bottom-up.

Green anarchists for the win. :D

that would be so hard though. the government has just made even lower class people think that this is the best thing and that it always HAS to be this way, so the lower class drones have no other concerns besides feeding their children and making sure they have heat in the winter... getting enough people to do that would take reverse brainwashing because years of indoctrination and mcdonalds have turned people into lethargic, pessimistic sheep.

    Re: good jobs for anarchist?

You have a good point, but look at it this way: all is not lost, nothing is hopeless. Take the situation in Greece, for example. Every day citizens and working class peoples are banding together to throw off the oppression and internalized thinking that's been riding their backs since day one, not just radicals. Every day you hear news from Greece about struggles and victorious triumphs against the capitalist machine, and it gives us overseas hope and comfort that our struggles aren't in vain. I guess my point here is this: While the plan I've described above seems improbable, it is not impossible. You get enough people together with the same cause in mind, and you can take down anything.

    Re: good jobs for anarchist?

I'm a student but about to start a 2 year social work course for professional qualification. Social work has often been accused of being a great way of proping up capitalism, and making sure nothing changes. That criticism is spot on. But I want to do social work as a form of accompaniment (the idea from Liberation Theology, Zapatismo, etc.) so people get what they are entitled to, and join the organisations that help them fight for more. If anyone knows about the service users' movement, they'll know it's one of the most inspiring reversals of the role of state and public in decision making in the last few decades in the UK. None the less, child care, activism and learning are just as important as work, so I'll hopefully be working part time.

Well I got ' Laid Off ' last week for speaking up about anti-immigrant propaganda (again read : anti-Mexican) that was being spread around in our dispatch office, I took a black marker and wrote "White Power" with a swastika on it after about the fifth time I encountered the literature and repeatedly asking who was doing it and people playing dumb like they didn't know. A week later they decided to get rid of the uppity Mexican because: "there isn't enough work, but instead of firing you we'll do you a favor and lay you off so you can collect unemployment" I'm still undecided on what to do about it they didn't fire me because A.they didn't have a good reason to and B.I could have sued the shit out of them with help from the ACLU and they knew it.

I work in Logistics In Melbourne. I don't like Melbourne weather, four seasons in one day and too hot in the summer. I'm a naturalised Scot so am used to the cold. Tomorrow's top is 15 degrees :D My wife will complain but it's comfortable for me. I want to do something else but haven't worked out what yet.

    Melburn represent!!!
What you talking bout? Melbourne weather rules! Especially summer! Stop whinging, and enjoy not being fucking cold and wet for a few months of the year!

back to the question. I work part time in a shit office job. It pays the bills. Who gives a fuck what you do for work? As long as your not a boss, cop, paramilitary, vivisectionist, bank management or something like that, then your a worker. Work sucks obviously, that's why i'd like to see a class war to destroy wage labour, exploitation, alienation, classes, capitalism and the state. Waxing lyrically about what is 'better' jobs is hardly the point (though some are inexcusable), exploitation is exploitation, fucking destroy wage labour!

What do I do for a living? Oh my fuckin god, I could go on about this for hours, I wash dishes. I've been doing it for 8 years, but it pays the rent and everything. It does have it's benefits though, and it was a choice between washing dishes and joining the service so I guess I can't complain. Unless you like the job you have and the work that you do, work is gonna suck.

I work for a national non-profit that supports volunteerism. (On every level.)
    It's a fun time.
And it's nice to know that even if my coworkers are annoying at any point, that they are good, smart people.
    Except Karl, Karl's a dick.
But everyone else, I mean, I know them, I know they care about things, and actually work towards the things they believe in, and aren't complete dipshits.
    So it's cool.
