Looking for information on equipment required for a small home recording set-up
Already have a Behringer 10 track FX mixer unit but was wondering if anyone had any experience with attaching that to something like Reaper multitrack software and what sort of computer and soundcard specifications would be required. Would rather go down this root, rather than Pro tools or Cubase as I can't afford either the hardware/interfaces/software for these two.
Looking to record guitar and vocals and then add associated sampling and drum tracks very much like Burnt Cross have done. I understand that these are a couple of brothers with a guitar and cutting edge lyrics that are producing great music.

Do you play any instruments? Are you PC or Mac based? How powerful is what you have?

If you have a Mac then Garageband is great and FREE!

I'm on a PC with ProTools. Brilliant prog. My advice - get a M-Audio sound card (like the 2496, an awesome card) and a pirated Pro Tools M-Powered. Then buy one when you have the money. Adobe Audition works good too.

Or get the free Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ Never used it myself, but I bet it does the biz. Won't be anywhere as powerful as PT though.

You could maybe get an old PT on eBay. 6.4 was stable. Don''t get anything older. Avoid 7.0

Burnt Cross just use BOSS900cdr 8 track to record, i only have a guitar and mic and thats it, i dont do computor based music, the drum machine is in-built and so i record that live cos im shit at programming (ie- i have to turn knob when chorus comes in etc) then just lay gutair down and bass (which is just one guitar string through one of the effects) and then my bro comes over once every 6 weeks and lays his vocals down.
The machine cost £275 but its cheaper now and has suited us great, released 6 7"s and and LP from it and all is going good, with a split 7" with Cress coming up soon so worked well for me.

Audacity can be tricky, because there isn't many possibilities of recording - apart from that it's quite fine.

Personally, i use a Mac with Logic Express. It's expensive, but worth it.

I already contacted Paul and he suggested I contact you through myspace, which I have done but you already replied here. Ta very muchly. Great music by the way. I will be purchasing the albums asap. I know they are free download but I do believe that the artists should be compensated for their work in some manner. Its the record companies I don't agree with.
