Masakari / Tempest Pit Bull Benefit Split & Little Sister EP

Postby replenishrecs on 03/05/2012, 13:57

Preorders for the Masakari / Tempest Benefit Split EP and the Little Sister EP are now available on our website at http://www.replenishrecords.com

RR07 Masakari / Tempest Split
Image

Formed in Ohio in 2006, Masakari is a five-piece band from Cleveland that unleashes a devastating blend of hardcore, d-beat, and crust with their own point-blank, by-the-throat approach to these classic styles. The band wastes no time ripping our government, corporate, and religious institutions to shreds while raising awareness for both human and animal rights amidst crushing waves of pure aural aggression. The split features both an unreleased and a live version of "X. Pain Conceived As A Tool" from their album The Prophet Feeds. For more information about the band, please visit http://www.facebook.com/masakariband

Formed in Canada during the fall of 2007, Tempest is a five-piece band from Vancouver, British Columbia that combines elements of hardcore, crust, and post-metal into a cathartic wall of thunderous riffs and searing vocals. The band's relentless brand of dark hardcore is driven by the issues of animal rights, overpopulation, and religion to create a truly claustrophobic, exhausting, and terrifying musical experience. The split features both a remastered and a live version of "Death Rattle" from their album Passages. For more information about the band, please visit http://www.forgediniron.ca

The Masakari / Tempest Benefit Split EP is now available through Replenish Records on 7" vinyl with a double-sided foldover jacket (limited to 500). 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Wiggle Butts Bully Rescue of Cleveland, OH and HugAbull Advocacy & Rescue Society of Vancouver, BC. Replenish Records hopes to raise not only funds for these unbelievably compassionate organizations, but also awareness about breed specific legislation and our responsibilities as humans to our animal companions.

Little Sister - Little Sister
Image

Formed in Ohio in 2010, Little Sister is a five-piece band from Cleveland that combines elements of hardcore, crust, and death metal to create a vicious tension between underlying melodies and undeniable power. The band tackles the issues of war, oppression, and alienation in a semi-detached but realistic form to a completely dark, brooding, and devastating soundtrack. For more information about the band, please visit http://www.facebook.com/idolstodust

Little Sister's self-titled EP is now available through Replenish Records on 7" vinyl with a double-sided foldover jacket (limited to 250 clear and 250 black). The first 50 preorders will receive a custom silkscreened slip cover that doubles as back patch (pictured above). Don't sleep!

Re: Replenish Records Releases & Downloads

Check out the Sound Out The Braille review of the Masakari / Tempest Benefit Split EP and preorder today at http://www.replenishrecords.com

Masakari is possibly one of the most interesting hardcore acts around today. After a only a handful of releases they have quickly established themselves as one of the genre's most progressive and forceful entities, both willing to, as well as eminently able to, blend metal, crust, grind and hardcore in uniquely inventive ways that very few, if any, other band today can duplicate. Their music is so forceful it's unbelievable, there is an edge and an exactness that is razor sharp in all aspects of their music. There is nothing half-assed to anything they do. There are shades of Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone and Discharge bringing both melody, aggression and dissonance to their sound; as well as huge doses of Entombed-styled metal, fleshing out the writing with battering metal riffs, barely contained chaos and a sludgy, implodingly dense heaviness. Here they contribute two versions of the same song. It is a previously unrelesed track, X.Pain Concieved As A Tool, recorded during the The Profit Feeds album sessions. They come in both a studio and a live version. It is a quick rager with lots of bouncy d-beat aggression and a nice Tragedy-like guitar melody weaving in and out of the chaos. The live version is obviously a bit rawer but works really well, both as a track in and of itself but also as a contrast to the fairly polished studio version and displays quite well the ferocity of the band's live performaces.

On this ep they team up with Canadians Tempest, whose style differs quite a bit from Masakaris', but they are nonetheless one of the more interesting bands coming out of this whole dark hardcore style that is evolving out of metal and hardcore today. Their style is extremely dynamic and is moored in lots of chaotic raging black metal-colored aggression, Botch and Converge-like chaotic twisting guitars and monolithic Neurosis-influenced post-hardcore. All of it coated with depressively dark crust-like melodies, infusing everything with an oppressive sense of hopelessness and desperation. Just as with Masakari's contribution, they deliver a live version and a studio version of the same track, titled Death Rattle (off their 2010 Passages album). Death Rattle is one of the bands slightly more accessible songs, where at first dense chaotic riffs and howled/shrieked vocals, goaded on by galloping, fairly complex drumming, all of it drenched in dark atmospheres, batter you with a chokingly heavy attack, but goes on to open up somewhat, with emerging melodies and guitar lines that eventually moves on to a fairly serene ending. It's a complex and also quite beautiful song, in its way, and a nice introduction to the band's music. The live version comes off as slightly more chaotic, no less dense but a bit more brittle than the studio version, but otherwise it's very well executed.

This ep is a benefit release, whose proceeds will go fully to two non-profit canine shelters, one in Cleveland and the other in Vancouver, each band's respective hometowns. You'll find a downloadable version of the ep at the label's bandcamp site at http://replenishrecords.bandcamp.com

Check out the Orlandooom review of the Alda DLP and be sure to get your hands on one of the last five copies of this record before they are all gone! Preorder, stream, and download this album directly from our website at http://www.replenishrecords.com

This album, the band’s second release, is very much in line with the current USBM sound scheme. What separates this one from others, however, is the band’s mastery of the balancing act between folkish acoustic suites and punishing, triumphant black metal a la Wolves In The Throne Room. I expect death threats when I say I enjoy this album far more than any USBM release I’ve come across (aside from Woe). The first track “In The Wake Of An Iron Wind” alone is a grand journey from hilltop to catacomb, first caressing with soothing “sitting in a clearing” dark folk, then ripping the listener up by the roots and riding off into the black metal wilderness. “Tearing Of The Weave” features a very interesting production quirk, as they manage to shift from their acoustic segments to very triumphant black metal by way of slick fade-ins, producing images of the music itself emerging from the river depicted on the cover. Very engaging, adept black metal that requires attention from anyone who follows USBM, or just wants to hear a great sleeper release for early 2012.

Formed in Australia in 2009, Encircling Sea is a four-piece band from Melbourne that combines elements of doom, black metal, and post-rock to create their own epic, sprawling, and beautifully atmospheric brand of metal. The band transitions seamlessly from one genre to the next in order to weave an intricate web of intense emotions about the reconnection to earth and the true meaning of home. The band’s full-length album A Forgotten Land is now available through Replenish Records on double vinyl (limited to 300). For more information about the band, please visit http://www.facebook.com/encirclingsea and be sure to download the album for free in its entirety at http://replenishrecords.bandcamp.com

Check out some of the first reviews that are starting to roll in...

On Pris À La Gorge, Quebec act Milanku craft extremely solid post-metal-type post-rock, with a couple moments during this nearly hour-long affair that elevate them from just "bon" to "très bon." These guys remind me of a heavier Envy, because they're essentially shouting a foreign language over a dark downbeat. It's nonetheless awesome at times. Opener "La Chute" is a great example summing up what the band does so well: roll along at a slower tempo with moody, atmospheric rhythms that give way into harsh, growled, crushing juggernauts that warrant comparisons to Isis or Cult of Luna.

Encircling Sea are Melbourne-based four-piece who play a progressive, eclectic style of wizard rap incorporating elements of post-metal, noise, ambiance and, surprisingly enough, folk. Its members have previously lent their talents to the likes of Clagg, The Abandonment, In Trenches and Whitehorse among others. With A Forgotten Land, Encircling Sea manage to tread the valleys between punishing heaviness, meditative calm and ethereal transcendence. This is a sonic journey filled with emotional depth and progressive instrumentation – an exceedingly ambitious concept, but flawlessly executed. Consider me blown away. Essential for fans of Deafheaven, Year of No Light, Alcest and anyone interested in intelligent, progressive, heavy music. Do yourselves a favour and check it out.
