ok im staying at a house with some friends and the house owner is the son of some really important welsh IWW guy. hes about 70 and seems to jabber on about communism but i cant understand a full sentance, he said he worked in moscow for 2 years and loads of other crazy stuff. but at the same time my friend who's from check lazvascia and was brought up under communism rule had some bad things to say about the communist way, some good to but she said things became better around 89 after the revolution. it all got rather confusing by the end. i may sound uneducated but can someone explaine to me in simple english what the IWW is.

Perhaps this organization is what he is referring to.

    http://www.iww.org/

It's hard to tell with so little context. Could you scrap up any more details surrounding his history?

yep that's it IWW, I think I understand what the IWW is now. workers rights but there all over the world. there not anarchist there communists, anarchist just support what they do hence the red and black flag. umm unfourunatly I only stayed with him for a night n I couldnet get much information on him, cant even rember the guys name :S I know he's done a lot of protesting in his time for workers rights he lives in wales, uk but have done stuff all over eatern Europe. but I found it raelly interesting being in the middle of a depate between someone who was brought up in communism and someone who had worked for communists, my check friend said one thing that was good was that most people had the same (simple life) but then there were very little people on top but the ones on top had much more power than most. also she explained to me that it all went down to who u know, if u knew someone at a shop you could get oranges but if u didn't know them then the oranges wouldn't even be on the shop shelves. i'll try n get more info on him when I see my friends again :)

The IWW of which I am a member is neither communist nor anarcho syndicalist but is based on principals of both theories, at various times in its history it has leaned hard in one or the other direction...currently it has a stronger syndicalist flavor than anything else...the majority of members, in fact all but one socialist in our group are dyed in the wool anarchists...

IWW are not communists, they are revolutionary syndicalists. They work through direct democracy organization but it is different from anarcho-syndicalism because they are not anarchist. The basis is revolutionary syndicalism is to unite all anti-capitalist revolutionaries under the same banner (IWW calls it One Big Union). They believe that anarcho-syndicalism divides the power of unionism because they only allow anarchists. So the IWW is just a tool to unite and smash the state. They don't really talk about what should happen after the revolution beside what concerns the workplaces or the organization of the working class.

If you're from Europe you might be familiar with IWA which is very similar to Wobblies union though it's more focused on anarcho-syndicalism. As far as I know, IWW has more members and is more active than IWA.

The I.W.W. are actually not anarcho-communists, they are anarcho-syndicalists. The appeal to syndicalists with an anarchist flavor.

Syndicalism is a type of proposed economic system, a form of socialism, considered a replacement for capitalism. It suggests that industries be organized into confederations or syndicates. It is "a system of economic organization in which industries are owned and managed by the workers.

Anarcho-syndicalism (also referred to as revolutionary syndicalism) is a theory of anarchism which views revolutionary industrial unionism or syndicalism as a method for workers in capitalist society to gain control of an economy and, with that control, influence broader society.

Communism is much, much different. When you're talking about Communism you're referring to generally, stuff like Chairman Mao and Joseph Stalin. Trust me, I lived with the then-appointed Vice President of the Revolutionary Communist Workers' Party of the United States. There are literally dozens if not hundreds of communist parties in the United States and from what I understand most of them, if not all are stockpiling guns in a compound somewhere, lol.

What's interesting about the I.W.W. is that I know an anarcho-syndicalist who is a History Major at a college in southern Illinois who says he has a registered militia in Illinois that registered themselves with the government to legally own firearms. He says if workers go on strike, they will show up with guns to defend the striking workers. So you are correct in that syndicalists and communists go hand in hand and that's more true in the cities then it is in rural or country areas. Once you're in rural or country areas, you experience more environmentalist and primitivists like Anarhco-Primitivists. So I have a red and black anarchist star on my right arm, a black anarchist star on my left arm and ANTI-CIV (a branch of thought quite similar to anarcho-primitvism) tattooed on my knuckles.

I hope this clears up any confusion for you. A stupid question is only one that is not asked.
