So anyways, I live in the good ol' usa, long story short I have had a number of health problems and been in and out of the hospital more then once in the last few months. I now have medical bills that are +20 grand and growing more and more that I can never afford to pay. I wish I had some kind of access to health care like they do in other countries, so for those of you who live in other countries is it a good thing? To me this isnt some bullshit democrat/republican debate, this is my life getting fucked with you know?

Healthcare is the reason I mix socialism/communism with anarchism. I use the Canadian Healthcare system like nobodys business, I've have many many health issues and I believe it's a basic human right to healthcare.

When I went to live in germany, I went over with my girlfriend at the time. I was going to marry her so that she could attain german citizenship. But before we could get all the documents in order she had an abdominal pregnancy and had to be rushed to hospital. She had an operation and didn't have to pay a cent! How's that for the advantages of a healthcare system? And she wasn't even a german citizen yet. :o

I don't know how anyone can be against healthcare. It's the greatest thing government has and ever will do.

I know most people don't like The Exploited but this song is still so relevant:

There's fuck all nice about the USA!
You go to hospital you've got to pay!
The dollar's the language that they all speak!
They don't give a fuck about the radiation leak!
FUCK THE USA! FUCK THE US! U-S-A!
FUCK THE USA! FUCK THE US! U-S-A!
FUCK THE USA! FUCK THE US! U-S-A!
FUCK THE USA! FUCK THE USA!!!

It depends. In Poland(guess where am I living) it's kind of bad. You have to pay anyway for most things in private clinics or wait few years until it'll be your turn(if you need surgery, for specialist help you have to wait only for few months).
But you know - Polish administration is an extremely polished black hole(and they're absorbing most of money intended for healthcare), and most politics don't care(like they'd give a shit about anything but their money, they usually use private clinics, their children learn in private schools etc. so they don't bother about poor people problems).

Here in Portugal we had until a couple of years ago, the health system (hospitals and exams) free. Just paid a nominal sum. But with the advent of the crisis and mismanagement of the Portuguese health system, we now have everything much more expensive and basic things like exams, have to be paid. But it remains more or less accessible and affordable to those most in need, who earn minimum wage, etc..

Because of this and the general poor service in Portuguese hospitals, private health insurances have grown and become an option, for those who can, of course.

It has been often debated that the ultimate goal is to deliver the entire health system to private companies.
The health spending are the biggest domestic debt of Portugal.

In Ireland there's the Medical Card scheme, whereby if you earn under a certain amount or are receiving Social Welfare, you can get a number that entitles you to free treatment, medication and a few other perks. I've got one (dole scum!) but never actually used it!

It is a bit depressing to hear that healthcare is pretty much screwed up everywhere. Obamacare does seem to be a step in the right direction for the US, but until we take the money away from the CEO's and such from the private companies and start putting it back into the system we are never going to get anywhere. Unfortunately this is what seems to be exploited in the examples above... which really just goes to show that people just suck.

Its definitely a good thing, where I live you only pay a small part and if/when you`ve payed over a certain amount you get free healthcare for the rest of the year. Its still a bit expensive, but its better than having to pay it all by yourself.
Its all free if you`re on welfare though.

With no central government we have to rely on doctors like the ol days. and it wont be unaffordable i dont think. there is many reasons why healthcare is so expensive in the us. mom and pop clinics will be expensive, but repayable for an honest man.

what about the ones that aren`t "honest men", meaning people with no jobs, people that can`t work for various reasons, illegal immigrants or the homeless?

NHS is/was pretty good. The cost to quality ratio of it really shows why you shouldn't have capitalism in healthcare. The tories are determined to kill it off though, can't have a non-capitalist organisation showing up the free market cunts now can we?

dont forget about charity. wouldnt there not be any illegal immigrants in an anarchist place? just people right?

honestly, im not the biggest humanitarian. I know i wouldnt go to a hospital if i got something like say cancer. but i think you may underestimate community. which i think is fair to say is the core of anarchy. most likely in an anarchist community, u will know your doctors. and if you have no job, something can get worked out. honestly for the homeless, having hung out with countless of them. i say tough. i do have some strings of darwinism in my hair.
