Who reads political books anyway? The Right puts out books that nobody reads, while the Left puts out books that are so boring, your insomnia will be cured within minutes. They read like a political science student’s end-of-semester dissertation. Then, they all promote these books by appearing on T.V., podcasts, and public radio shows. Do they all want to be the next Karl Marx?

The anarchist writers I read used to release essays that were distributed during anarchist meetings in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Nobody had book deals back then. There are now anarchist publishing houses run by a collective. Bully for them!

There is a book making the rounds now, by Raina Lipsitz. It’s called, “The Rise of the New Left.” Sorry, babe—the New Left had already risen! During my youth, I was involved with two of those groups, “SDS” aka: “Students for a Democratic Society,” and the “Youth International Party,” otherwise known as “Yippie.” Lipsitz wears butterfly glasses like those my Grandma Eva wore in the 1960’s. She looks like an SDS member from 1965!

Okay, I haven’t read the book yet, but the title irks me to no end! According to her interview on a recent podcast, her book starts out discussing the “Occupy Wall Street” protests of 2011. I guess Lipsitz is referring to “the Millennial Left;” not the Anarchist Millennials or The Tankies, but the Democratic Socialists and other such identity groups. She talks about how the (sic) New Left has structured themselves after—I can’t believe I’m going to say this—the “old” New Left. You know? But, again, I can’t really critique the book until I’ve read it. I’m just judging by the interview. Also, I presume that she’ll write about “The Social Justice Warriors,” whom the Right stereotypes and mocks. Hey, you Right wing bastards! I was doing that shit in the 70s! Again, this is not a book review. I just want to visit taxonomy once more. “Labels, darling! Labels!”

Sloganeering and branding is often sneered at by intellectuals as simplistic and idiotic. However, anyone who works in advertising will tell you that sloganeering and labels are crucial for selling a product. It’s their golden goose! That is to say, for selling said product in an ad that airs for only a minute or less. It is an art and a science. A product’s competitors will demean your product through schoolyard name calling.

The Conservative party has been pushing name-calling for decades now. The old label, “The Left,” had become a useless one. So, they employed an old, Afro-America colloquialism to replace it: “Woke.” Their label, “Woke,” means “the Left.” We all know it’s a lame term, but it has taken off like a 747 jet. The Left has a small, disparaging label for the Right, “CHUD.” Some Liberals would never use that word because it’s too impolite. Dusty Smith uses it to title a segment of his show, “Chud Watch.”

Now, how one sells their ideology is very important. Its brand has to resonate with people’s hearts and minds. Plus, it must be a brand that the Right cannot refute. “Anti-Authoritarian Left” or “Anti-Authoritarian Leftist” is better than simply branding oneself a “Leftist.” The Right has made the label, “the Left,” a dirty word. A monosyllabic adjective has more bite to it. Propagandists on the Right know that WASP working class members have low IQs, so they create simplistic insults. Thus, “Woke” is a fine example. Also, Conservatives have a hard time comprehending hyphenated terms, i.e. “Lesbian-Anarchist-Feminist.” By referring to yourself as an Anti-Authoritarian Leftist, you immediately denote the fact that you are for freedom. No Conservative can contradict that label. Not one, slimy Rightist!

So, what advocates of Leftist ideologies qualify as “Anti-Authoritarian Left?” Let’s see: there are Justice Democrats, Democratic Socialists, Progressives, Liberals, Anarchists, and Socialist Libertarians. I’m sorry to point it out, but Communists and Tankies are Authoritarians. So are the politically-correct regressives.

Good Lefties: start calling yourselves, “Anti-Authoritarian Leftists.” Those are magic words. Do it and watch a Chud melt before your very eyes.
